Dukies on the 2025 PGA and LPGA Tours

Max went +4 over his final three holes to finish round one at +5 and T-61. It’s definitely a harder course but that was a collapse.

Only Alex in the field at the Mexico Open, tee time 7:41 CST. Not sure what to expect, he was T6 here his rookie year but missed the cut the following 2 years.

Alex really needs to make hay this weekend. There are no top-10 players in the field, only 1 top-20 player, and 7 other top-50 players. Alex is currently #51. There are only 2 tournaments to make the AON Swing 5 for Arnie's tournament, Alex needs to get into these signature events to put himself in position as 1 of the top 30 to 50 players on Tour.

Alex with an ok round, -2 and currently T20, but he was out early and half the field just starting to tee off. Nothing spectacular but mistake-free golf until the 17th when he missed a 5-1/2 footer for par (a 3-putt). Tee time tomorrow is 12:21 CST.

You described his round round accurately- ok. Seemed to drive well but approach shots were very average. Didn’t play himself out of contention but gave himself too much work to make it likely.

Afternoon golfers are killing the course, cut looking to be at least -3 (depending on weather). Alex has work to do. But a lot of these guys aren't regular Tour pros, they might tighten up tomorrow...39 don't have any FedExCup points, and another 59 have rankings below 100. Alex should snag a top-20 this weekend if not better. He's currently T39 and falling.

Alex should have a good idea what score is needed to make the cut (my guess is -4) but hopefully that won’t add more pressure since he will need to go at least -2 again. Of course if he can’t make this cut then his days might be numbered on the tour…

I'm not sure I'd go that far, AGD. Any golfer can have a bad week, even Rory misses cuts (very very rarely). Alex is consistently playing the best golf of his career (by far), at least in the early season. I was going to wait a few more tournaments to do this because it's a small sample, but...

In his 1st 4 tournaments (they are not exactly the same courses every year, and remember the beginning of the season was wrap-around before last year, so I'm doing the calendar year to be as comparable as possible):

2022: cut, T25, T56, cut
2023: cut, T22, T37, T65
2024: cut, T21, cut, 75
2025: T16, 11, cut, T21

I told him he needed to improve his putting, and he listened to me 🤪. He was 168th last year, so far this year he is 18th!

I think he'll come through for us today.

Yeah I took that a bit too far🤣
No problem. I'm trying my best to stay positive. It's not all that easy nowadays.

The morning groups are all on the back nine and the cut hasn't moved, and Alex has only dropped 6 spots. The top of the board is playing well (which means a great finish is moving farther away from Alex) but the middle and lower players are tightening up.

So I praise his putting, and he blows a 30-foot putt 8-1/2 feet past the hole and bogeys the first. He's now on the outside looking in. It's early, but I'm giving him a metaphysical kick in the butt.
