Dukies on the 2025 PGA and LPGA Tours

Saw a story on (ESPN Sports that Kevin Streelman has torn his meniscus and will soon have surgery to repair it. No mention of how he did it (maybe jumping up from his chair when watching one of Cooper Flagg's monster dunks?) or how long he may be away from the tour. Let's hope for a full and speedy recovery.

Anyone have a sense of how long he will be out for? Seems far from ideal for a 46-year old golfer. Hope he is OK, recovers well and can be back out there soon.

Treat it like a potential no hitter till that option is gone.
See my comment on what John Sterling said about talking about a no hitter/perfect game.

If I can influence an outcome from a bazillion miles away, I want to be paid more too! :)

Time for the 5th Major, The Players Championship.

Alex 8:02 EDT
Max 12:56 EDT

Now we'll get to see what Alex is made of, this is the toughest field in golf and I hope he continues his strong play. It's his signature event (since he's just been missing qualification for those) with the same points to be won. Except for the winner, but if he wins the points won't matter because he's gonna get a raft of exemptions. These elevated points are important, a top-10 would move him up about 20 spots.

Speaking of signature events, I wonder how the sponsors of the other events are feeling since top golfers are skipping their tournaments. With the elevated points and money, they don't need to show up. Among the golfers who have played nothing else are McIlroy, Morikawa, Cantlay, Hovland, Fleetwood, Scott, and Zalatoris. Scheffler has only played 1 non-signature event, and probably only played there because he won it 2 of the past 3 years and past champions (especially recent) are kinda expected to show up.

I don't think that is good for the Tour.

Not Duke related, but I just saw that Tiger has torn his left Achilles tendon and had surgery to repair it. So much for play the majors this season.

I can relate, sort of. I went through the same. I tore my left Achilles tendon and had surgery to repair it. It's not a lot of fun.

For me though, I was a youngster just out of college. Youngsters heal faster.

Great round by Alex, -4 and T1. In the 3rd group out so a lot of golf left today, but only 27 of the morning golfers are under par. The course is playing tough, I think the rough is especially more than you see in regular tournaments.

Here are some current scores of some golfers you'll recognize: Justin Thomas +7, Max Homa +7, Viktor Hovland +8.

Max collapsing after another bogey on a par 5. He was hitting his 3rd from 121 yards and missed the green then couldn’t get up and down. Now about to double bogey the.next hole🤬

How could they not finish? It was a beautiful day and they started at 7:40. The Tour really needs to do something about slow play.

Alex dropped further than I expected, I don't know if the better players had afternoon tee times or the course (conditions) got easier. He's still in very good shape, Max has some work to do. Tomorrow looks to be another beautiful day, expect the cut to be around -1.

Well Max bogeys his first par 5 and two holes later is in the water again- this time it was a 100-yard approach shot from a bunker. Hopefully Alex will have another good day because Max looks sunk.

Yeah, he's going to have to go at least -5 over his final 14 holes. Doesn't look good.

Oof. I thought he was going to double but he missed a 2'5" putt. He's done, apparently given up on the round.

Last of the morning groups is getting ready to tee off. Looks like Alex will need another -4 or better to stay in the hunt. A win of course would be phenomenal, I'm just hoping for a top-10.

Max grinding in next-to-last place. Nothing to follow until 1:07.

Smalley goes -5 today to move to -9 overall and tied for 4th just two shots back. He probably could have gone lower with a bit better putting which is crazy. Great job and hope he can back it up this weekend!

Wow, Alex throws up a great round of -5 and is T4 with Rory and Collin. That should hold, there's only a few golfers within 2 or 3 shots of him and they're running out of holes. Great opportunity. He should be paired with Collin tomorrow.
