Duke Women's Soccer 2024

The NCAA's website is showing that tickets to the college cup semi's are sold out! Dang it that UNC got to play a day earlier and their fans have bought them all up.

  • The Blue Devils finished the season 12-0-1 at home in 2024, completing the fourth undefeated season at home in Duke history.
  • Duke head coach Robbie Church coached in his final contest at Koskinen Stadium, finishing 180-46-32 over his 24 seasons. He improved to 28-1-1 in NCAA matches played in Durham.Church now owns 398 all-time wins as a women's head coach.
  • The Blue Devils moved to 32-3-1 in NCAA Tournament matches in Durham.
  • The Blue Devils finished the season with 50 goals at home, a new program record.
  • Duke's 18 wins on the season is the third-most at Duke under Church – 23 in 2017 and 22 in 2011.
  • Duke now owns a 12-win turnaround from a year ago, which ties for a NCAA best in 2024
  • The Blue Devils have now scored 14 goals in the 2024 NCAA Tournament, which is the third-most in Duke history.
  • With Duke's goal in the first half, the Blue Devils set a new single season record for goals in a season (68).
  • Duke's defense was too strong in limiting Virginia Tech to four shots, which tied a season low.The Blue Devils attempted 13.
  • Over the four NCAA Tournament matches, Duke has held its opponents to only 14 shots.
Between Church’s record at home in the NCAA Tournament and the fact that Duke has only allowed 14 shots….not shots on goal….shots…is insane

What a big game.

I've seen all three games against UNC this year. Duke has only allowed multiple goals in a game three times this season, and two of those games were against UNC. In the third game, UNC looked particularly dangerous with its full roster of players. The good news is that we have outscored them 5-4 on the season. I expect both offenses to apply lots of pressure, and it could come down to who can convert on their opportunities. It will be a very, very intense night.

This is a massive game for our women. Not only are they playing in the college cup, going up against their biggest rival, and trying to win for their retiring coach, but they are also trying to finish off a magical season (the best in school history on most dimensions). I hope they don't let the moment overwhelm them...some of the interviews yesterday suggested they are approaching that point. Given the confidence they have played with all season, I expect they will not let that happen once the whistle blows.

I have seen many Duke sports teams over the years, and this one is at the top of the list as an easy-to-cheer-for group. They play together, play hard, play with confidence, and play with joy, and they have been brilliant.

As great as our athletic program is, these opportunities are rare and very special. The girls have been the best team this season, and man, do I want them to realize their goal.

Let's go Duke!

Its difficult to sweep a rival for 2 games much less 3. Duke won the first two and lost the third, so perhaps the pressure is off and the momentum is with Duke for this game. Let's Go Duke!!

Always a bit “huh?” about Coach’s “all” teams. Trying not to be snobbish, but U of Maine and U New Hampshire wouldn’t typically have several All American type players
yet another misunderestimation of northern New England! It happens a lot......meanwhile somehow Vermont just managed to beat the San Diego team that Duke lost to in the NCAA tournament ....and Cooper Flagg and Kyle Filipowski have taken note! No lobsters for you!

We were also coming off of a brutal stretch that had us beating ND, Wake and UNC in succession over a 10 day period

The team is healthy and refreshed. Our midfield was dominant in the first 2 games and are going to need it tonight.

Have to optimize on our shooting. For my money, Gagne is a weak link for them. Doesn’t read the field particularly well, average distributor and below average on low shots. Her strength is high shots due to her height and wingspan. Keep it on the deck and the Devils will find the back of the ole onion sack.

My highly uneducated take:
- The first game was pretty closely played; we scored on a breakaway that was a little bit lucky but nevertheless we capitalized whereas they never did. That was the game in which Rader got injured and we did an amaing job holding on to win.
- The second was by far our strongest performance. We dominated for long stretches and led throughout, although we nearly got burned on some deep balls.
- The third in the ACC tournament was also close and there was some atrocious officiating. Could have gone either way.

We have played amazingly well this tournament whereas UNC has been pushed. The won their 3rd round game by scoring in the final minute, and their 4th round game in OT. That probably means nothing at this point, but it has me feeling optimistic. Given the completely opposite directions that the basketball and football programs are heading between the two schools right now, getting this win would be quite another blow to the CHeats in terms of rivalry dynamics.
