2027 Men's Basketball Recruiting

Good Lord, now we hear about these kids for 3+ years? Can't we let them reach the end of their junior year in High School?

Over the holiday break I did some analyses of what we talk about on DBR (the thread is now on page 4 or something like that).

With regards to recruiting I put together the following graph of when a recruiting thread was opened (months before students would start classes at Duke) and the recruiting year.
Three years is pretty typical.

And then on to the pros in 1 year?

It's the new definition of a 4-year player.

That is good!

I thought about not starting this thread since he is indeed a youngster but decided that given his location in Raleigh at Broughton High - and that he mentioned Duke and not other close by schools - it was worth sharing. Admittedly a long ways off - but in these days of reclassifying, maybe sooner than 2027. Will see about checking him out in-person as Broughton is fairly close to me.

Duke has had good fortune with legacy recruits recently. Another pair of names to watch play high school basketball in North Carolina.

Zeke Battier is in Charlotte.

Christian Carrawell is at Broughton High School in Raleigh.

I wonder if those two and Cayden Boozer might be college teammates one day.

For those wondering, neither Battier nor Carrawell appears on ESPN’s Top 25 for 2027 recruiting. But, one of Christian Carrawell’s classmates at Broughton does: Jordan Page.

NC is home to four ESPN Top 25’ers in the 2027 class. For context, the ESPN 100 (for 2025) and ESPN 60 (for 2026) have a total of five NC players. So, early indications are that 2027 will be a really strong class in the state.

I could not find anything yet about 2027 recruiting so thought would start a thread after seeing this link from Blue Devil Country on SI.

Jordan Page, 6-4 freshman, lefty guard, who lists Duke as a dream school. Highlight clip shows some nice rebounding skills as well as nice outside shot. Impressive as a freshman. Looks like a name to remember.

Certainly slides into the Duke campus nomenclature.

Folks probably know this but CWell has another son who has been playing college ball for several years. Caleb Stone-Carrawell has been at Charlotte, Austin Peay (playing for Nate James) and Utah Valley. This year, his 6th year (thanks Covid and redshirting), he is playing at Loyola Marymount. He is a 6-7 wing who averaged 11.7ppg and 3.4rpg last year at Utah Valley: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/caleb-stone-carrawell-1.html

In terms of Zeke Battier, the 6-6 SF played last year at Ransom Everglades in Florida (Shane works in the front office of the Miami Heat). As a soph he averaged 24.5ppg, 9.3rpg, 1.5 spg, and 1.0 bpg and made the All-Miami Dade 3rd team (in the 2A-4A size schools, the Boozers made first team in the 5A-7A sized schools). He takes a big step up in quality this season as he will be playing for Charlotte’s Providence Day School, which is one of the best programs in the State.

It takes a lot lot lot to make it to Duke, even as the son of a legendary player. I mean, Zeke could end up as one of the 5 best players in the state of North Carolina and that would likely mean he would be little more than a walk-on at Duke.

I used to golf with a player a few years older than me who was the CT state amateur champion in high school. He often told the story of trying to go to Duke and Wake Forest, and both coaches told him he could walk on if he liked.

Was that Andrew Cuomo? 😎😧

He certainly has more hair than his dad does!

What are the chances the Kneuppel family meets or exceeds the Plumlees in their number of Duke Basketball players?

Kon is one of five brothers, all of whom were born within the same seven-year span. Just 18 after having celebrated his birthday in early August, Kon is the oldest by three years, with Kager representing the class of 2027.

I was looking for Kager in the 2027 early recruiting rankings -- no sign of him yet -- and I came across some really familiar names among the top players in the 2027 class.

Standing 7-feet tall even though he is only 15 year old is Obinna Ekezie Jr. He supposedly already has offers from Kansas, Alabama, Houston and others.

Marcus Spears Jr, the son of the former NFL lineman who has had a nice TV analyst career since retirement, is considered among the top 10 or so players in the class. His mom is former women's hoops star Aisha Smith so the kid has some pretty impressive bloodlines. He also has early offers from SMU, Texas, and LSU.
