2024 U.S. Presidential election

It hasn't made it's way quite yet to equipment. Gates are semi automatic. They still have to be confirmed by humans .70% of the equipment is a software install away from being automated. It's in the gulf ports to a degree. West coast has lost 1000 jobs.
This is a prevent defense strike.
They had been offered 50% .I believe it's more about automation.
To be honest even non union employees are paid fairly well. I was above 40 a hr .if i agreed to run ship to shore it would have been above 50 a hr.trainees start at 26 a hr.
If you wanted to know.
That's a great wage for non union non educated employment.
Union employees make the same give or take.both have great benifits.
I have been worried about automation for a decade .
Thanks, that's about what I was thinking. We've done a bunch of gates and weigh in motion scales, but any time there's a loss of jobs, it becomes a non-starter. I've seen presentations for fully automated roro terminal for years but the line has been held on that kind of change.

No problem. If you are familiar with kone cranes they have a nifty automation system.

Ill stop so not to keep off topic.

For those of you who are wondering why the polls are close, the NYT spoke to some undecided voters in swing states who voted for Biden in 2020. One of them explained part of her indecision as follows:

"I think Trump’s a disgusting human being, but I don’t really know anything that’s all that great about Kamala."

I get it. It's a coin toss if you have the above viewpoint.:)

when I'm in charge, interviewing Undecideds is going to be a federal crime....

For all you Biden voters...the war in Ukraine? The kerfuffle in the Middle East? Inflation? IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!

“Look at the World today—Look at the missiles flying right now in the Middle East, look at what’s happening with Russia/Ukraine, look at Inflation destroying the World,” Trump wrote in one post. “NONE OF THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS PRESIDENT!”

In another post, Trump decried the conflict as “TOTALLY PREVENTABLE.”

“IT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED,” Trump said. “IF I WERE PRESIDENT, IT WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED!”

Biden is making a huge mistake in not immediately invoking Taft-Hartley. And the Harris campaign should be incessantly dragging the million-a-year, Bentley-driving, 85-foot-yacht-owning president of the ILA. He chose a side, and he’s fair game.

VP Harris apparently coming to town tomorrow to survey the hurricane damage. Governor Kemp was here a day or two ago.

We will still be without power for a while, but thankfully things are starting to come back on-line.

Mrs.PK wants to find a way to stream the debate tonight. I’ve enjoyed being oblivious to politics since Thursday night and have no interest. So, we’ll find a way to stream the debate tonight.

Maybe. But what would be the smarter move politically: doing that or Harris going on the picket lines expressing solidarity with the working class, and making ads out of that?

“Biden” and “immediately” don’t seem to go together in a sentence very often. Love him or hate him, he acts cautiously and with (perhaps excessive) deliberation. And here, I think it is with good reason.

I think it would be a mistake for Harris to act rashly in this. It is a complex set of issues. Presumably, the members of the ILA who support the strike do not own Bentley’s or yachts — they want wages and health benefits that keep up with the incredible spike in costs that blue collar workers face. If you rent, if you’ve got a kid in college, if you want to buy that first home or just put food and medicine on the table for your family — there are apparently legitimate reasons for these members to risk a strike. The economic crunch is real for many people.

Not saying who is right or who is wrong. I do. Or have nearly enough information to make that judgment. Just saying it is not something to wade into without considering a myriad of factors (both political and economic).

Anyway, back to ignoring politics until the power comes back on.

How about standing with the people impacted by Helene?

I think this strike of it goes more than a week could easily cost Harris the election.

While I suspect attacking a union would appeal to the embarrassed Republicans of Raytheon Acres, Virginia, the Dems have seemingly made their highest priority, I'm not sure how it plays with other parts of the electorate Harris is trying to win.

Netanyahu launches his perfectly timed October-surprise war. Iran predictably retaliates. Thousands of US soldiers are surging in and may get involved in operations.

Trump will soon be screaming "Kamabla is too weak to protect our allies and our country. She and Crooked Joe are starting WW3 right now. We must stop them!!!!!!!"

Will Netanyahu go on TV on Nov 4 and announce that the US and the world need a strong leader like Trump to protect us all?

Wild the degree to which the Biden Administration abandoned Obama's #1 rule of foreign policy in the service of abetting and, if this Politico report is to be believed, outright encouraging the series of escalations that have led us to this point. And now Harris is the one caught holding the bag politically, but she's painted herself into a corner by refusing to give any daylight between herself and Joe.

Edit to note that the wankerizer apparently won't let me link to articles discussing Obama's rule, presumably because the URL reflects the policy: "Don't do stupid sh--"

Nevermind. Trump is already doing it.

And Israel will now strike back at Iran with everything they have. There will be nothing proportional about their response as Biden mumbles "ceasefire now" from the Oval Office. This will be a massive attack and escalation by Israel because who's going to stop them? It's all so predictable.
