“If thou hast not conquer'd thy self in that which is thy own particular Weakness, thou hast no Title to Virtue, tho' thou art free of other Men's. For a Covetous Man to inveigh against Prodigality, an Atheist against Idolatry, a Tyrant against Rebellion, or a Lyer against Forgery, and a Drunkard against Intemperance, is for the Pot to call the Kettle black."

This election has been tough on everyone, both sides. Reading this thread the past couple of weeks has been exhausting. Moving forward hoping to focus less on politics and more on DUKE basketball, which is why we are here.

The election wasn't anywhere near as tough as the first Trump administration was. No "strong" economy is good for everyone and there are always groups that are ignored. If you did well and weren't ignored during his first 4 years - great! I fully expect the next four years to be just as tough as the first time around was for the groups that will be ignored. So, congratulations, and yes, please, turn your focus to Duke basketball and ignore us.

Our economy isn't "strong" for everyone. There are a lot of people whose cost of living dramatically increased in the last four years and whose wages didn't keep pace. And the Democrats have largely ignored, or at least have been perceived as ignoring, that problem.

The Infrastructure bill, the Chips act - both disproportionately helped folks in red states and manufacturing jobs have increased. Ignored?

Fact is we are already seeing wage growth outpace inflation. And for awhile that will likely continue. And I will guarantee without a shred of doubt that Trump will look to take credit for this thereby creating “perception”.

We already have national ID cards (which I do not like), and Trump (for whom I did not cast my vote) was not their originator.

Are you willing to place a bet on your vision?
I don’t have one. It isn’t required to be produced on demand.

And no. I won’t bet. It wouldn’t be agreeable as to terms.

Since we are throwing down quotes: “All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again.” Number 6.

This….country. People that don’t know their history are doomed to repeat.

This country is awful at history. There has already been a concerted effort to maintain that deficiency. Pretty easy to see why.

If you are here on the Off Topic board to focus on basketball, you are lost. At the top of the page you will find a link to the EK Board.

Biden should have withdrawn in 2023 to allow for a primary. But I don't fault Harris. She ran an almost perfect campaign.

Americans are choosing fear, hate, retribution. They think it will be a rerun of some idealized version of 2016-2019. It won't be. The fascists will move aggressively to take over. The cruel Project 2025 crowd will run the show. In their words, "it will be a bloodless coup if the Left allows it".

Trump's DOJ and FBI will move to silence critics and opposition. He will invoke the Supreme Court immunity as he does things that no other American President has ever considered. A very dark time is now here for our country.

Will the institutions hold to allow for an opposition party and future elections? I truly don't know.
The country is going to learn to be careful what you ask for because you just got it.

Anthony Scaramucci on his late night The Rest is Politics livestream:

"You guys are gonna hate me for saying this. But you've got a bunch of white people running the country. They see the black and brown people overwhelming them. So now they're going to change the rules."

This is a rich, white, elitist Manhattan hedge fund guy who supported and worked for Trump spilling the tea...
That’s not really insightful of him. It’s been the underlying motivation for the last twenty years. Really much longer. Progressive changes that take generations can be replaced by regression overnight. It was always just a matter of timing and the right candidate and people not knowing fact from fiction and complacency.

History shows that this country rarely learns anything. Remember we live in a post truth world now. Even if the economy goes to crap, which it very well could (economists have warned us and Trump is only looking for loyalists) - if enough loud voices are claiming things are better people will just believe it.

I admit I was wrong. I sent an email to a fellow moderator yesterday saying I expected Harris to win because outside of his hard-core base, people are tired of Trump's rhetoric. The voting public decided they are tired of Democrats.
