Agree that he should have fully owned it. But the others still should not have blamed him.Yes, pretty clear that Kenneth Bednarek was the biggest problem (although the handoff between King and Kerley was also poor.) If this was a one-time thing I'd agree with almost everything you said. But this happens pretty much every time, and these runners' comments are variations on "oh well, maybe next time" and give zero confidence anything will change. I would honestly have preferred Bednarek to say it was his fault and the other runners to have agreed with him. He cost them a gold medal, those don't come around that often.
On the Friday evening NBC highlights show, track commentator Ato Boldon went into some detail on the mistakes made. They showed video of Bednarek pre-race placing yellow tape in his exchange lane with the explanation that Bednarek should start running when the incoming runner reached that yellow tape, and not before. Then the video of the race and the exchange detail -- Bednarek started well before the incoming runner Christian Coleman reached the yellow tape. Coleman appeared surprised and was flailing away trying to catch up for the exchange, finally getting the baton beyond the end of the exchange lane, resulting in dis-qualification.Yes, pretty clear that Kenneth Bednarek was the biggest problem (although the handoff between King and Kerley was also poor.) Yay! That last shot that was saved by Naeher was clearly offside right?Women’s soccer with the gold.
Dunno, but she was my player of the tourney.Yay! That last shot that was saved by Naeher was clearly offside right?
I wasn't sure, and they never did raise the flag. I'm glad it didn't come to that. Heck, at first I thought the U.S. goal was offside, and was happy to learn that the player who was offside never touched the ball and wasn't really involved in the play. A disallowed rebound goal would have been devastating, so good on Mallory for putting away that first attempt.Yay! That last shot that was saved by Naeher was clearly offside right?
From what I've read those are the rules. Can for sure blame the judges for the wrong score, and her coach for being 4 seconds too slow.So the CAS has now ruled that Jordan Chiles’ inquiry for her score came late (1 minute 4 seconds instead of 1 minute) and they are taking her bronze medal. This is going to get ugly. Thats a huge BS move.
I mean it sucks but those are the rules. I don't know why the change to her score was initially allowed, maybe that's the default unless another team files a protest? The coach has the difficulty score the second the judges release it, that delay (from what I've read) is on them. This gymnastics reversal is getting ugly. If the appeal was late, they should not have considered it. Saying now that it was late seems too convenient coming after the complaints from Romania.
Also I have little sympathy for Romania as they also filed an appeal on behalf of the gymnast who would have lost to her teammate due to the tiebreaker. They know about appeals and can’t complain about someone using the same process they tried to use.
I jokingly called my daughter a Commie for not joining me to root for the US in some event the other day.Sorry ... watching Lebron demonstrably show up the ref every time a call doesn't go his away - the same nonsense he does in the NBA - makes it impossible for me to root for him or the team.
I'm not a big fan of enforcing the rules for the sake of the rules. Did she win the bronze based on what she did in the competition? If the answer to that is yes, and if they agreed to hear the inquiry in the first place, then why are you undoing what's already done? If a very different thing to say, "We can't hear your appeal because you brought it up too late, you didn't win," than to say, "We think you should have won, but you actually didn't win even though we already said you did."I mean it sucks but those are the rules. I don't know why the change to her score was initially allowed, maybe that's the default unless another team files a protest? For a person that doesn't like to be hugged she sure does give the team a reason to hug her.Dunno, but she was my player of the tourney.
That is awesome. It's also fascinating, as I just can't picture Dennis Rodman ever saying to one of his teammates, "I'm hugging you. Hug me back!"For a person that doesn't like to be hugged she sure does give the team a reason to hug her.
Hugs these days aren't what they used to be.That is awesome. It's also fascinating, as I just can't picture Dennis Rodman ever saying to one of his teammates, "I'm hugging you. Hug me back!"
