2024-25 Announcer Thread

Former Duke assistant coach Hubie Brown will end his broadcasting career in February. ESPN:

It'll be a full-circle moment for Brown. The Basketball Hall of Famer's finale will be in Milwaukee, where his professional coaching career started in 1972. The Bucks will play host to Philadelphia that afternoon, with the game preceding that day's Super Bowl.

My favorite NBA broadcaster ever. Knows the game so so well and focuses on the game, and has a good time doing it. No BS shtick. No ego. Just basketball.

and he was very very nice to me 50 years ago when he was at Duke, a real pleasure to deal with.

The job Bonner did last night was essentially a masterclass on how color commenting should be done.
To my own surprise, I liked Bonner last night, too. He seems to have been phased out in terms of the number of games he covers, but he also seems like he has toned down his particular schtick. I used to groan when I saw him smiling cheesily at the start of a broadcast, and did the same last night, but compared to guys like Corey Alexander, I found last night's color commentary to be a breath of fresh air.

I have to revive this thread just to say that Boeheim’s voice is stunningly awful, particularly for a broadcaster. It is a blend of bone-crushing boredom and condescension. He sounds like he would rather not be doing this job, but, if you insist, he will explain to you in the most exasperated, condescending way possible what is going on in the game. I don’t know why it took me so long to notice this. Maybe his dog just died?

Someone please tell me that I misheard the announcers in the Clemson/Wake game. Paraphrasing, but they were talking about someone (player?) whose parents are only 5’7 and 5’8, and asked how tall the insurance salesman might have been.
Kinda inappropriate, if I heard correctly.

I’m just amazed that with the incredible day of college and pro sports on TV today that the game Youre watching is Clemson-Wake basketball!

I thought he was pretty good, compared with some of the garbage we usually have to listen to. Granted, his voice and delivery are essentially a good substitute if you can't find your Ambien, but at least, for the most part, he is talking about the game and sometimes making helpful comments.
