2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season: General Offseason Discussion

Still around and not ready to purchase any real estate. For the record, Duke's defense was ranked 82nd and 43rd in Kennard's two seasons.

Cooper saying K2 is more athletic than he expected is the first (and only) nugget that's given me pause. Cooper saying that guys will need to accept their roles and maybe not get the minutes expected (I know I'm butchering the quote) is very interesting to me.

What happens to our bet if the 5th starter rotates based on matchups? Inquiring minds want to know.
You're quick with that defense response! I don't know how K2 and Kennard compare from a quickness standpoint, but K2 is 2 inches taller and more physical. Love that quote from Cooper - had not heard it!

Bart Torvik is projecting us to have the 3rd best defense and 3rd best offense, but we still aren't his top team in the country. Houston is.

My understanding of our bet is that you are predicting Brown will start and Ngongba will back up Maluach at the 5, while I'm predicting our fifth starter will be a wing like K2, Gillis or James while Brown shares the Center with Maluach and also maybe plays some backup minutes at the 4.

If we're 20 games into the season and Brown has started half the games then I guess we do a Zoom and eat some pie together and celebrate our 20-0 start.

What's the over/under on number of players to start at least one game this season? I'm thinking seven, but I could see going higher. If that's the case, why so hung up on the "fifth starter"? Who's going to be our sixth or seventh or eighth starter?
This goes back to me and Azz disagreeing on Brown and Ngongba's roles with the team.

Yeah, I'd put the over/under on 9 different starters for the season.

Torvik only has K2 playing 15% of the minutes. That explains the 3rd best defense ;).

My understanding of the bet is Brown is the fifth starter while you thought one of K2, Gillis or James would be the fifth starter. You know me, backups don't really concern me.

We can wait until the end of the season to see who won the bet. The best things about this bet is no matter who wins chances are Duke had an excellent season and of course pie.

I don't know but I just listened to the last DBR podcast and JE is hearing direct from players now that K2 is the real deal. 😎

I'm liking my pick more and more for K2 as our fifth starter over Gillis. I'm envisioning his game as maybe Luke Kennard with some Luka Doncic upgrades...

Azz, are you around? There's still plenty of real estate on K2 Island.
I don't know about azz, but I'm liking what I'm hearing about K2. Especially that he's not a bad defender. The buzz is not quite as loud on Evans.

GoDuke!

Who is going to be the Cooper Flagg "Big Brother", ie "Body Guard" ? I wouldn't want to see him him get mauled every game

one of the things about his game that is so helpful is that he's not just a scorer who can be bullied, he's a terrific facilitator and off ball defender which is more difficult to goon on.

You run afoul of this dude at your peril...

Everyone knows a skinny dude who they know not to mess with because they're scrappy and a little bit crazy. It's Evans.
Haha. Yes, I think Evans can handle himself slim warrior style. Not sure he will big-brother Cooper. I think that falls on Gillis and James, but I bet Brown will be there too.

Cooper is a fiery guy who plays with a nasty edge. He'll get mauled some, but I think opposing players will do at their peril.

Waynne, I agree. I see some Christian Laettner in Cooper that will keep some bullies at bay. Will be fun to watch.
He's also legend. The clear #1 player in the class. A couple of guys might come after him, but many more will respect him and not want to get tagged as the guy who took a cheap shot at at Cooper Flagg.

Plus Sion is standing there ready to settle up. 😎

Scheyer measured slightly under 6'5 at the combine so I think Kon is 6'5ish with shoes on.
Scheyer has better posture and is closer to the camera. 😎

I saw a team photo at one point where he looked taller than both Proctor and Foster. He's listed at 6-7 on goduke. Whether he's 6-6 or 6-7, it doesn't matter a ton. He's a bigger, stronger kid than I realized. I think he's got 20-25 pounds on freshman Luke Kennard who I was originally thinking was a good comp for him coming in...
