2024-2025 Men’s Basketball Season General Discussion

There's nothing we can do about it but continue to win these games. We are Dukezaga this year, it is what it is.
And Gonzaga's West Coast Conference schedule hasn't prevented it from making deep tourney runs with elite teams.

They've reached at least the Elite Eight in four of the past six tourneys and those four teams played in a WCC that sent just one other team to the tourney each season.

Bama will be a #1. I would be looking at Tennessee, Florida or maybe Michigan St. as our 2. Hoping as of now for Oregon, Ole Miss or Michigan as our 4.
As I think was discussed upthread, we are very likely to get an SEC team on our #2 line - since they can't match them with the #1 SEC seeds -which will mean no SEC team on our #3 line, making it likely we also get one on our #4 line.

The SEC currently has 9 out of the top 25 teams. Odds we get an SEC team at #2 AND #4? Probably greater than 50%.

I say bring it on.

ESPN studio guy just said “we have Duke coming up..” and all the other analysts gaped and said you mean UNC and we’re acting like it was a huge slight to the Tar Heels🤣

Just seeing that the East Regional goes through Newark. Wouldn't be surprised if they put St Johns here as a 4 seed like they did in 2019 with VaTech in DC. But the way they are playing they might be a 3.

Rick Barnes has long coached the handcheck D.
Barnes appears to have added a few more "defensive" tactics from the Tony Bennett playbook, employing frequent hip-bumps and shoulder shoves. I suppose when your players lack real basketball skills -- they shot 11-45 from behind the arc and still managed to lose to Kentucky by only 5 points -- you must resort to unrelenting physical brutality as a means of offsetting the talent advantage.

That was a good Duke team they knocked around and out of the 2023 NCAA tournament.

I think Scheyer and this team would be prepared for rough house tactics if we should meet this year. Still, I'd be happy to see somebody else do the dirty work of ending the Vols season.

Good team and talented, but a callow one. With a rookie coach.
