The saga of Daniel Jones thread

The way Jones has handled this situation along with everything else in his tenure in NY, dating back to replacing the very popular Eli Manning at QB, reminds me that I would absolutely love to be wrong about his long-term prospects.

I think he's somewhere in the range of Trubisky to Mariota. But if ends up pulling a Geno Smith at some point, it'll be the tastiest crow I've ever eaten.

(That, and Scheyer someday disproving my theory that a freshman-driven team will never win a national championship.)

Trubisky? Not fair, man.

I went to my first Giants game in probably 25 years today, and it was my kids first game. Unseasonably warm for this time of year and relatively cheap tickets, plus a childhood friend was in town with his son, so I decided to go. Really ugly game. DeVito didn't have a chance as the line was pretty bad. And there were a few questionable play calls. The crowd was quiet and depressed. Daniel is a competitor and a loyal teammate but I'm guessing part of him was glad he was not there.

Reports are that there is a lot of interest in Daniel around the league and when he clears waivers on Monday he is expected to have plenty of suitors. He is said to be more interested -- for now -- in being a backup on a playoff team than in trying to battle for a starting job on a struggling club.

I think we all will be surprised if Daboll is in East Rutherford next year. Daboll do ya is Daboll done.

lol. I’m sorry Daniel has had to go through a public spectacle of a demotion before the Giants cut him, when all they wanted to do was avoid paying him but money if he were injured, but I’m glad he’s gone from the team and it didn’t take another season ending injury to make it happen.

Footnote DeVito, meanwhile, God save his soul.

DeVito threw for 35 yards and was sacked three times in the first half alone as the Giants faced a 23-0 halftime deficit. He finished 21-of-31 for 189 yards passing.

Here's what Barkley said about Jones' situation:

“I’m not going to speak too much on that,” Barkley told reporters. “I’ve been in contact with him. Our friendship has stayed close throughout the whole process of me being here.

“It [stinks] to see how everything went down for him over there. I got nothing but great things to say about him. You’re not really going to find anybody that can really say a lot of negative things about him, but it’s the NFL. Hopefully, wherever he ends up next, they’re going to get a guy who will come in and work. It didn’t work for me over there and I’m doing well over here. Hopefully he can find the same kind of fresh start and success.”

Giants made the right call. They weren't going anywhere with him. The roster is bad. Nothing much worse than being bad and paying big money to a RB.
Yeah i agree about Barkley, but should have done a full reboot. DJ looks like a bad QB to me but maybe a change of scenery will make a difference. Sounds like he's focused on being a backup on a good team, which feels like the right play to me.

I don't think it was worth signing him just to keep him away from the Eagles. Agree on the reboot. As many NFL franchises are finding out you shouldn't over draft a QB by 3 rds relative to there talent cause it will set you back 5+ yrs. It must be a rough time for Giants fans.
