Premier League ‘24-‘25 (real and fantasy)

I think Tim Howard called this right, and he's a goal-keeper.

Also, keep in mind that it's a corner kick. Silva isn't offside until his teammate strikes the ball. At that point, he's not obstructing Saar at all.
I’m not hung up on the individual call but it’s opened a can of sh!thousery that will be used through the league. It could have been stopped here and now.

I guess I'm less confident of that than you are. I've seen plenty of people jostling back and forth with a keeper prior to a corner kick. In fact, it happens practically every time a corner kick is taken. I just don't see how this one incident changes anything.

Hard to survive at 14th in the table when two of your biggest rivals sit atop the table.

Still, a new coach won't make Casemiro any younger.

City's antics for the last goal might be within the rules but it's morally bankrupt. It's also going to open a can of worms.
What? Ben White's been doing stuff like this for two seasons. Arsenal's second goal at the Ethiad in September was a far more blatent block on Ederson -- and probably should have been disallowed. Far worse has been going on forever.

But City's the problem?

Every EPL team has a dossier of Cities double standard. 😀 After this weekends Arsenal/Liverpool can I can make at least a weak claim that I have a basketball team that gets all the calls and a football that that doesn’t get any.

The stoppage on what would have been the third goal was odd, to say the least. I'm less sympathetic to the arguments about the red cards this year, but that call was odd.

Wasn't as bad as the penalty the Hammers got yesterday though. I'm not going to complain about United losing, but that's just a terrible, terrible call.

That penalty was nuts. All the broadcasters have a mandate not to criticize officials and even they broke that.

Van Nistelrooy’s appointment as United interim manager is bad news for Everton. He was in charge at PSV during Branthwaite’s loan and they apparently got along very well.

Looks like he’s not going to be there long.

Anyone watching BHA-MC? The Seagulls were down 0-1 and now just went up 2-1 in 84”. (USA Network)

Pep has NEVER lost four games in a row as a manager. On the precipice.

Wow. I kept it on but checked out when Kevin hit the pitch. They still haven't been able to find a solution to being without Rodri. Also there is now a body of work that other teams can use against them. Let's go Villa against Liverpool.

In the immortal words of Roger Bennett: "We back!"

Is it me or does it seem like there are more internal breaks this season?

No more till March now and we now move into the most intensive part of the season. Game weeks average every 5 days or so.

Yeah. I don’t believe the EPL even has its half hearted winter break this season. We will see if that hurts the English teams playing in European competitions. I have no love for City but feel for their players (Foden and even Walker although he did have a break) that had Euros last summer and Club World Cup this year. That’s a brutal 14 months.

Liverpool continue to maintain a massive 9 point lead over Arsenal and Chelsea (?!) at the top of the table with a 2-0 win over City. A nine point lead it's insurmountable but it's been done only three times in like three decades. That's 5 loses and a draw in City's last six games across all competitions and third in a row in the EPL. They haven't won since before Halloween and really look all out of sorts. Another coach not named Pep would be looking at the sack tomorrow. That a first season for Slot.
