Premier League ‘24-‘25 (real and fantasy)

I am completely ignorant about EPL compared to everyone here (and appreciate learning from everyone here), but we became CP fans after going to a game there in February. Being a CP fan is very humbling but fun. Nice to see them getting their acts together with a solid win today. They play Arsenal twice this week.
America’s soccer mom, Rebecca Lowe is a lifelong supporter too. She’s also an England support so she really knows disappointed. Still I expect CP to take 1 to 3 points this weekend. League cup is also a toss up because it should be filled with the B team.

It’s a stretch to call Crystal Palace and Brighton a derby. It’s a rivalry that’s played out as both teams compete and advance through the pyramid at times at each others expense.

Great derbies are usually geographically limited and usually to the greater metro area. Liverpool/Everton Man U/ City. London is packed with them because there are 17 professional teams and a hand full semi-pros and a ton more of amateur ones. Even then they can be broken down. The North London derby is only Arsenal/Spurs because they are the only teams there and physically closer than Duke and UNC. South London derbies have like five teams to pick from.

I agree with you about it being a stretch (for me) bit I also heard the tv comentador saying that it was a derby during the match.
Anyway.
This Wikipedia page says it’s the M23 derby…Go figure.

Being from Birmingham where about half the 1 million plus population are Birmingham City fans and the other half Aston Vanilla I would say that it’s a true rivalry and a proper old Derby game.

Yup. Saka's out for several weeks. We've got 10 games between now and the end of January. Ugh.
Yup. Was listening to the Arseblog Arsecast whilst working out this morning (before the medical verdict). Obviously, a big discussion. The guys did a good job. (Just discovered it.) League and Cup matches. Some should be easy but you never know (e.g., Ipswich)

I knew Saka was good but I did not imagine that Arsenal would miss him as much as they seem to be. Arteta is also experimenting with his team a lot too which is probably not helping.

Well the whole right side depends on him so that’s not easy to replace. Not just during the flow of games but on set pieces especially corners.

Also I’m just saying Anthony Taylor again with the questionable call that leads to a draw for the Arsenal. And it’s not just me.

“Former striker Alan Smith said on Sky Sports: “Really unusual. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player give away a penalty like this.”

Bad penalty. But we only scored one. On us I’m afraid.

Man U surprisingly showing up to play at Anfield! Great game with lots of opportunities for both sides in the second half.

North London is Red!
Forest and Liverpool draw yesterday tightens the table just a bit. That gives me the worse thing: hope. The Gunners aren't playing well so it won't last long. As it stands potential 3 team race for the title and 8 teams competing for a place in Europe next year. There is a chance the EPL can squeeze a fifth Champions League spot for 25/26.

Being a Gooner is like being a Jets or Mets fan. I roll with the punches.

It’ll be interesting to see if any of the title contenders add anybody in the winter transfer window. As a Liverpool fan, we could probably use a central defender, and maybe a left back, but I’m not holding my breath.
