NFL Survival Pool 2024

Out of both leagues. Haven’t watched a minute of the NFL(live). I’ve seen some scores and that is about it. Won’t watch a bit until the playoffs.

Because by adding more games, they lowered the value of a single game.* And I have a lot of other stuff going on.

*I say this as a former MLB 1/2 season ticket holder.

They’ve only added one game (taking each team to 17) but they do have many more TV slots now (Thursday, 2 MNF games, etc)

But to me, I think the NFL is missing out on a ton of potential revenue by running 8 games at the same time each Sunday. In a world where TV revenue has surpassed the gate revenue, here is what I would do if I ran the NFL:
1. Space out the games on Sunday to create an extra TV slot: start games at 11:30, 2;30, 5:30, 8:30 and have a full day of football. Doing this creates 3 more hours of TV coverage to sell to the networks
2. Add a week to the schedule but add another bye week for each team. Win-win-win here, as you get an extra weekend of TV viewership and also give the players more rest and have a better chance for players to be healthy for the playoffs. I would also consider dropping back to 16 games but keeping 18 weeks of TV

Seems like $$$$ left on the table. If only the NFL would pay me $50m per year to be the commissioner. I could make myself available.

I have been making argument 2 for a long time and fully agree - add a bye to have another week of programming plus give the players another week off. It is a total no brainer. The other benefit now that we do have 17 games (they aren't going backwards on that - I was also suggesting doing 16 games in 18 weeks rather than adding the 17th game - I have a friend who is fairly senior at the NFL but he didn't listen to me) in addition to the main ones that you mentioned is that this pushes the Super Bowl back a week so that it is Erev (eve of for non-Jews) President's Day. That way a lot of people don't have work the day after the game so can Super Bowl party to their heart's content without having to worry about waking up the next morning.

Looked back at this thread and wondered if both leagues were still alive- only to find out mkirsh won the no-strike in Week 5.

Congrats mkirsh! Makes sense why you are still around with me in the one-strike
