MBB/WBB: Former Duke Players Now at Other Schools

Jaylen Blakes with 8 points, 10 assists, and 2 rebounds for Stanford. He hit the game winner on a jumper in the lane as time expired.

His assist rate is fantastic. Who saw that coming? He's still not much of a shooter and he turns the ball over more than you would like, but he's quietly having a very good start to the season.

Edit: Luke beat me to it.
I've seen a couple Blakes highlights, and he had a steal and breakaway power-dunk in one of them. His FG% is a career high by a country mile, but he still can't shoot 3s. He's averaging 14.3 ppg, which is a career high by 3 or 4 country miles. So, his use rate has gone way up while his FG% has gone way up. That's what i can't believe. There were times at Duke where he had trouble making layups, but he seems to be scoring the ball well now.

I see that Jeremy Roach had 8 assists and 0 turnovers last game. I guess he's getting his chance to play point-guard. Love Jeremy.

GoDuke!

With Baylor, Roach is still a bit more CG than PG. When Fr Wright is on the floor (25 mpg), he’s the PG. But Roach is matching Wright in assists (4.7/gm) even when not the nominal PG. And he leads Baylor in MP/gm (32.6).

Jaemyn Brakefield, 6-8 grad forward, Ole Miss
Henry Coleman III, 6-8 grad forward, Texas A&M
Mark Mitchell, 6-9 junior wing, Missouri
TJ Power, 6-9 sophomore forward, Virginia
Christian Reeves, 7-2 redshirt sophomore center, Clemson
Jaden Schutt, 6-5 redshirt sophomore guard, Virginia Tech

Shayeann Day-Wilson, 5-6 senior guard, LSU
Jordyn Oliver, 5-10 grad guard, Vanderbilt

In addition to the current Duke men and women, these 8 former Blue Devils will also be taking part in the ACC-SEC Challenge. (No Jaylen Blakes -- there are 18 ACC teams and 16 SEC teams, so the Stanford men are left out, along with the SMU men, Pittsburgh women, and Wake Forest women.)

Mitchell - 21 pts, 5 rebs, 8-14 FGs (1-2 3FGs)
Coleman - 10 pts, 3 rebs, 4-6 FGs
Brakefield - 1 pt, 5 rebs, 0-1 FGs (this game is an outlier for Jaemyn. He had 18 points in their last game)
Reeves - 0 pts, 1 reb, 0-1 FGs
Blakes - 18pts, 6 rebs, 4 ast, 3 stl, 5-9 FGs (1-3 3FGs) (note-- this was not against a SEC team, they played Utah Valley)

Jeremy Roach and Baylor play at UConn tonight. Hope Jeremy goes off!
Alex Karaban isn’t going to play for UConn as he recovers from a concussion from Maui (literal injury to insult)… the game is in Gampel so UConn will have some home crowd energy, but on paper this looks like a major mismatch in Baylor’s favor.

Wednesday, December 4

WBB: Vanderbilt (Jordyn Oliver) at Miami, 5pm ET, ACC Network
MBB: Virginia (TJ Power) at #13 Florida, 7:15pm ET, ESPN2
MBB: Vanderbilt at Virginia Tech (Jaden Schutt), 9:15pm ET, ACC Network

Jordyn Oliver scored just 2 points (1-3 FG) but also had 9 rebounds and 4 assists in 37 minutes of Vanderbilt's 88-70 win at Miami.

TJ Power was one missed 3-pointer away from a 5 trillion stat line; he did nothing else in his 5 bench minutes of Virginia's 87-69 loss at Florida.

Jaden Schutt started, played 34 minutes, and led the Hokies with 15 points (5-11 FG, all threes), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. Alas, Virginia Tech lost at home, 80-64 to Vanderbilt. Former VT players MJ Collins (15 off the bench) and Tyler Nickel (6 as a starter) were on the winning side.
