I love hearing that Blakes is having success. The Ninja Turtle seems like a great guy.
Happy for Blakes and for Roach. I don't see the need to be upset with these young men, especially given how competitive this year's roster is.I love hearing that Blakes is having success. The Ninja Turtle seems like a great guy.
I've seen a couple Blakes highlights, and he had a steal and breakaway power-dunk in one of them. His FG% is a career high by a country mile, but he still can't shoot 3s. He's averaging 14.3 ppg, which is a career high by 3 or 4 country miles. So, his use rate has gone way up while his FG% has gone way up. That's what i can't believe. There were times at Duke where he had trouble making layups, but he seems to be scoring the ball well now.Jaylen Blakes with 8 points, 10 assists, and 2 rebounds for Stanford. He hit the game winner on a jumper in the lane as time expired.
His assist rate is fantastic. Who saw that coming? He's still not much of a shooter and he turns the ball over more than you would like, but he's quietly having a very good start to the season.
Edit: Luke beat me to it.
With Baylor, Roach is still a bit more CG than PG. When Fr Wright is on the floor (25 mpg), he’s the PG. But Roach is matching Wright in assists (4.7/gm) even when not the nominal PG. And he leads Baylor in MP/gm (32.6).I see that Jeremy Roach had 8 assists and 0 turnovers last game. I guess he's getting his chance to play point-guard. Love Jeremy.
GoDuke!
I'm glad to see that Stewart returned Monday for Ohio State after missing a game, playing 22 minutes in an easy win over Green Bay. He continues to struggle a bit, with a strange line of 1-5 on close 2s and 4-4 on mid-range 2s and also 4 fouls.Sean only played 13 minutes. Left the game with what looked like a bad head injury.
He also had — stop me if you’ve heard this before — 4 fouls.Sean Stewart played 16 mins for Ohio St today. He had 7 pts, 5 rebs and shot 3 of 4 in OT loss to Pitt
Jaemyn Brakefield, 6-8 grad forward, Ole Miss
Henry Coleman III, 6-8 grad forward, Texas A&M
Mark Mitchell, 6-9 junior wing, Missouri
TJ Power, 6-9 sophomore forward, Virginia
Christian Reeves, 7-2 redshirt sophomore center, Clemson
Jaden Schutt, 6-5 redshirt sophomore guard, Virginia Tech
Mitchell - 21 pts, 5 rebs, 8-14 FGs (1-2 3FGs)Lots of former Duke players in action tonight in the ACC-SEC challenge: Mitchell, Coleman, Brakefield, Reeves, and Blakes. Tomorrow night Power and Schutt will be in action.
Alex Karaban isn’t going to play for UConn as he recovers from a concussion from Maui (literal injury to insult)… the game is in Gampel so UConn will have some home crowd energy, but on paper this looks like a major mismatch in Baylor’s favor.Jeremy Roach and Baylor play at UConn tonight. Hope Jeremy goes off!
Better chance Danny Hurley goes off.Jeremy Roach and Baylor play at UConn tonight. Hope Jeremy goes off!
