Duke plays a preseason exhibition against Division II Lincoln (PA) this Saturday, October 19, at 1pm ET on ACCNX (streaming link, live stats). The Lincoln Lions are led by first-time head coach Julius Hodge (bio), who you may remember from his playing career at NC State from 2001-2005. He was named ACC Player of the Year in 2004. He's been part of the coaching staffs at Buffalo (under Nate Oats), Santa Clara (under his former NCSU coach Herb Sendek), San Jose State, and Arkansas Little Rock.

Coach Hodge recently spoke with Mike Vaccaro (video) about his college and pro career, taking the Lincoln job, and the incident with Chris Paul:

This is our first chance to see the 2024-2025 Blue Devils against another team. Discuss the game here.

This is payback for Chris Paul being hit in the junk.

Sorry if I missed your joke but Hodge was the one whose junk got Paul’d

Yeah, saying that Julius Hodge punched Chris Paul is the basketball equivalent of saying JFK gunned down Lee Harvey Oswald.

From the interview I posted above, here's the portion where Julius Hodge recounts the incident:

Chris Paul tells his side of the story:

And here's the play. I haven't found a clearer version.

I don't know if I can provide a proper preview of Duke's exhibition opponent, but here's what I've found so far.

The Lincoln University Lions are based in Oxford, Pennsylvania, in the southeast part of the state, closer to the borders of Maryland and Delaware than the city center of Philadelphia. They are the northernmost team in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), a Division II conference of 13 historically black colleges and universities. The other teams are in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, so a trip down to Durham is not unusual for the players.

Coach Hodge retained 14 of 15 players from last season's squad, which went 17-14 (10-7), but won its conference tournament and lost a true road game in the first round of the regional playoffs. He added one freshman and one transfer. The roster lists 9 guards, 2 wings, and 5 forwards.

This is where I would say "The Lions are led by [this player]" but it's unclear who that person would be. Based on last season's stats, the leading scorers were 6-5 guard Bakir Cleveland and 6-3 guard Freddie Young Jr. The only player named to the All-CIAA Team was 6-1 guard Reggie Hudson. In March, 6-9 reserve forward Peter Sorber was named the MVP of the CIAA Tournament, while 6-9 starting forward Ethan Garita was MVP of that tournament's title game. All five are seniors now.

There's also an element of continuity in the coaching staff. Assistant coach Keyshawn McMahon has been at Lincoln since 2020, and he served as the interim head coach until Julius Hodge was hired. The other assistant coach, Mark-Anthony Pounds, was brought in over the summer, and should be very familiar with Durham, having attended and worked at North Carolina Central.

It had been so long, I completely got it backwards! I just knew the two had a nut punching history!

lol

Now you know. I failed to mention the most important thing from Coach Hodge's bio: he has two children. This means that he was able to properly recover from the punch. The human body can be very resilient.

Wow. All these years later and I remember why I liked Julius and still hate Chris Paul.

Good day,

This exhibition game vs. Lincoln is broadcast for me on ACCNX.

Can I record the game to watch it later rather than in real time?

Thx, y'all,
Chaz

All games on ACCNX are available on demand later. I don't think you can "record" a game on ACCNX, as it is streaming content rather than a cable broadcast. But it will be available afterwards in the "on demand" section.

ACCNX is a stream-only channel -- it's not the ACC Network in your TV provider's list of channels -- so unless you have a way to coordinate a DVR with the ESPN app on your smart TV, I don't see how you can record it. For those of you who are more tech savvy, please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are more likely to find a full replay from ESPN Watch shortly afterward, and possibly on YouTube about 2 days later from the ACC Digital Network, if they're doing preseason games. (They have not posted a replay of Tuesday's UNC-Memphis charity exhibition on ESPNU, so I'm not entirely confident.)

This information pales in comparison to an actual CDu sighting. It feels like I just bumped into a leprechaun riding a unicorn.
