MBB: Duke 76, Pitt 47 Post-game Thread

I was going to make this exact point - just phenomenal defense. I also noticed that Pitt was the first team to repeatedly get Maluach switched onto a guard defensively, yet they couldn't take advantage. Held them to about 30% both from two and from three, and as a team Pitt was averaging 84ppg yet we held them to 47.

It didn't even feel like we played our best game, as we had way too many turnovers (14), many of which were careless, we werent hitting free throws, and our offense took a while to get going as has often been the case this season. But our defense just carries us through any offensive lulls, and once we get rolling it's game over.
yep, still gotta alot of room to improve although it was a streaky good game...Cooper complete player with weakness...his carelessness with the ball and his propensity to turn to dribble and reverse back into a double team and get tied up or turn it over...thought he was out of that but tonight it reared its head...really no reason for anyone to have an iso play and just dribble into trouble...got to take it to the rack or pass it. Just run the variety of plays we have been using and no one can stay with us. We pass so well on those plays ...you can accept this missed shots but not the stupid turnovers...think we had more turnovers than they did most of the night

Yep, Coop and Tyrese both with 3 tos. We were careless at times. Really the only little negative on the night. 55% from 3. I think we are unbeatable when we shoot like that.

I don’t think that’s him. Most vips are allocated somewhere behind the Duke bench. I’ve chatted with an handful of former high-profile players well into the upper levels, but always behind the bench. Oddly enough, I actually think I know that guy.
Cutcliffe used to sit around the same spot

- Our best Duke defense since when? And we never seem to take a play off.
KenPom goes back to 2002. The lowest full season defensive efficiency rating Duke has had was that 2002 season, finishing at 86.8.

Our current season so far is even better at 86.1. Granted, comparing a full season to a season in progress may be a fool’s errand, but this defense might be the best we’ve had in the KenPom era.

As an aside, we almost caught up to Auburn in KenPom Net Rating after tonight’s results. They’re barely ahead of us (Auburn +36.99, Duke +36.79). In recent weeks, I think they may have had a lead ahead of us of over +4 or more.

I was lucky enough to get tickets tonight and could barely contain myself when it happened. Nearly brought the house down. That’s a sweet pic.
Imagine that was the loudest Cameron has been this year, although I can imagine it was super loud when Evans hit his fifth or sixth three against Auburn.

That nut punch to Procter was low blow. I’m glad we kept the starters in. Capel needs to tell his players to not do that nonsense.
