MBB: Duke 72, Incarnate Word 46 - Post Game Thread

Did we do enough to convince a QB to transfer?
It’s too bad he had to see Cameron at the sleepiest I’ve ever seen it during a game that wasn’t during a holiday break.

I’ll go ahead and make the annual comment about how the Crazies aren’t what they used to be and haven’t been especially clever or coordinated yet.

Are we going to continue the farce of claiming we have been sold out since the Jay Bilas had hair or whatever it is? There were tons of empty seats in the student section - they should have sold those to locals or whoever else. Could have raised a lot of money to use for NIL...

I agree the sellout claim is a farce, even if technically correct, but I’ve got sympathy for a process that requires estimating how many students will or won’t attend a game, with the imperative of not closing the door to any student who might show.

Agree. There was one time the Crazies got really loud during a foul shot and were cheering something specific - what was that?

Lot of empty seats. Get rid of the baby it isn’t relevant to basketball or fandom

Sleepy performance during a sleepy game in front of a sleepy crowd.

Not proud of it, but I actually did fall asleep lying on the couch twice during this one . . .

Best thing I can say about the performance is we sure know how to win ugly. Sounds back handed, but its important to find ways to win even when you can't make a shot. Transport this team back in time 1 month and they would probably figure out a way to beat Kentucky.

Thanks to Isaiah Evans, our offense only dropped 4 spots on Kenpom.

Duke 72, Incarnate Word 46 (recap, box score, highlights, condensed game, full replay, presser)

Twelve first-half points from Khaman Maluach helped propel Duke to an eventual 72-46 victory over the University of the Incarnate Word on Tuesday, Dec. 10. Maluach finished the contest with a career-high 17 points and was joined in double-figures by his classmates, Isaiah Evans (14) and Kon Knueppel (10).

Cooper Flagg and Sion James paced the Blue Devils with eight boards and Mason Gillis matched his career high with a team-leading five assists...

The Blue Devils won the rebounding battle, 44-26, and have now finished with an edge on the glass in eight of Duke's first 10 contests this season.

UIW entered the evening ranked fourth nationally for three-point percentage (.426), but was held to just 5-of-23 (.217) from deep on Tuesday night.

“We missed Maliq [Brown] out there too, Maliq's a key guy. He sprained his toe in the Louisville game. He’s done all the imaging and got everything checked out. He's okay, just the toe can take a little bit of time, but we hope to get him back as soon as possible. I thought Patrick [Ngongba II] stepped up. It was great to see him in there. Just across the board, just to get guys minutes and to get that experience, I think was great. We have to use this week to get better, get refreshed, get our bodies back, and get our minds back. I'm excited to have the opportunity to do that with our guys.”

The Devils Den had locker room interviews with Darren Harris (embedded below), Isaiah Evans, Cooper Flagg, and Patrick Ngongba.
