MBB: Countdown to Craziness

The shooting stood out to me. I'm not sure how much you can take from these scrimmages, but multiple guys were firing at will with good success. Part of it is they are probably not driving with supreme intensity to avoid injuries, collisions, etc. So shooting may be slightly emphasized but nonetheless it was an encouraging display going 7-19 in Game 1 and 8-15 in Game 2 for 15-34 or 44%. Subtracting out the banks but also Spencer's buzzer heave it's still a great number.

I though Kon and Evans looked solid. Maliq had multiple deflections and disruptions. Khaman was mostly as advertised - a little raw but a presence at his size and length.

Caleb looked excellent and Tyrese less so. But it's one (two?) scrimmage so I'm good.

Coop almost looks effortless. He is going to be a joy to watch.

ETA: last year's was a 6-21 shooting display (29%) in a 32 minute scrimmage. For reference. I'm not doing deep dive farther than that.

It seemed like Tyrese was focusing on driving and distributing on offense. Give how many shooters and scorers we have, I think a Tyrese that limits the # of shots he takes and focuses on defense and being a orchestrator might be what the team needs. The team has talked a lot about people accepting their roles, and this may be part of what that translates to.

Or Foster may say, "Stand back, I've got this."
I agree with this take. I posted earlier in the summer that I thought the only two guys with the chance to challenge Cooper as our leading scorer are Foster and Kon. I still feel that way. With as many weapons as we have, Proctor is going to be the guy we ask to set the table - not eat the meal.

If Proctor slumps in being that orchestrator - which also means scoring 8-12 efficient points each game - then I could see Jon turning to Foster. But hopefully that doesn't happen. I love our backcourt of Proctor/Foster/James. Bring on the Heels!

One thing we didn't get a perspective on last night is just how huge this team is because everyone on the team is huge. When we see us out there on the floor against Arizona St, Maine, ... I think this advantage will be striking. Teams will have trouble getting clean shots up.
