MBB: Countdown to Craziness

Overreaction time!
  • Kon is going to challenge Cooper for the No. 1 pick (y)
  • Sion has a FT problem (n)
  • Maliq is going to be national defensive player of the year(y)
  • Tyrese is too passive to be our starting point guard (n)
  • Duke is going to lead the country in banked threes🤷‍♂️
Did I do it right?

-Harris and Evans are offensively confident
-Tough to score on defenses that know what you are trying to do
-It really does feel like we have 10 guys that can produce

Can't take too much from this but a few observations...

Foster continues to look great to me. So quick and strong off the dribble. I feel like he and Cooper have the quickest first steps with the ball.

Maluach could have had 4-5 more blocks if defenders hadn't fouled. Guys need to learn that he's back there to clean up when they get beat on the drive. His length is insane.

Harris is such a threat to score. All his first half shots were on line and off the front of the rim. Such a quick release.

Gillis locked up Kon on D in the second half. Isaiah looked good. Hard to imagine him and Harris on the deep bench, but who do they play ahead of?

Brown seems more ready to start at the 5 than Man Man.
It's tough to say. Who is a better fit with the other four starters? Khaman offers elite rim protection. Could see him blocking 7-8 shots some games.

Could Jon split the minutes 20/20 between them for the first half of the season while he figures it out?

I got very little out of that. It was nice to see basketball but not a lot of real takeaways. Cooper is really smooth. Man man has great defensive potential. Borden is a talented musician. We are clearly still identifying roles.

I know this isn’t gonna be popular on this board but I think Proctor has to come off the bench. He is isn’t in the top 5 now.
Nah, he's shooting 100% in all the summer videos... 😎

I think the only thing you can read into tonight is we have 10 guys who deserve to play.

Didn't see much improvement from Tyrese today - inconsistent finishing and shooting. On the other hand I thought Caleb looked great and is ready to lead this team.

Of the freshmen outside of Cooper, Kon looks great and ready to contribute and honestly Darren as well if he can hold up on the defensive end. I think Isaiah will be the odd man out, not sure if his game is ready for the next level with his frame. Khaman is raw but will be a game changer as he develops.

The transfers (Sion, Mason and Maliq) all look like they'll be very solid contributors.

I predict:
Tyrese, Foster, Flagg, Brown, Maluach as the starting five with Kon, Sion and Mason first off the bench and Darren with spot minutes when we need shooting.

I thought Evans looked really good tonight. Hard to see him as the man out.
