Keatts Fired, Wade Hired

No offense to Coach K, but I really don't want State to hire an old retired coach regardless of how good they might have been.
Agree and he doesn’t look good in red. Pack may be competing against Indiana and possibly Arizona State for Wade. Not sure if Wade would prefer Indy since their conference a step up from whatever conference McNeese State is in.

Is ASU planning to fire Hurley????

As Lucas had to report for duty in Miami ASAP for the Portal...
I hope State doesn't make this move with having several interested fish on the line and close to reeling them in..
They may mess up their Portal window if they didn't lay some groundwork...

They should have done it last year.

But really... the coach only matters to a point. If they aren't going to give the coach the NIL resources, it hardly matters.
All things being equal they could do a whole lot worse than Chris Carawell. CWell has a working blueprint of a modern college basketball program.

I don't want to lose CWell and JLuc in the same year. That's brutal.
BUT I think Chris could do well. He wouldn't have to move if he didn't want to..

Its unfortunate. As others have said this makes the job unattractive and makes the program look even worse. They have now gone through 5 coaches. But last year's run was a fluke just like UNC in 2022. It makes me question whether the program and leadership are the problem not the coach. NC State can not attract the type of talent (elite) to take the program to another level IMO.

ruined our season last year and for what
I didn’t look at it that way. We were real lucky to beat Houston when their best player was hurt early and not sure we were getting past Marquette until Pack beat them.

And bluntly, no one was beating UConn in the tourney.

State shouldn’t be finishing 16th out of 18 teams in a shell-of-itself ACC. There’s a heckuva lot of real estate between “perennial national power” and where they are rn.

Houston remembers...I don't want to see them again this year !

5 coaches? In how many years?

All of those 5 coaches had losing ACC records.
Robinson as discussed in this thread had the play-in game named after him. He was given six seasons.

Sendek never won anything of importance and had a positively dreadful record against Duke and UNC. He was given 10 seasons and left on his own for ASU, where he proved similarly mediocre.

Lowe had five disastrous seasons where he never finished better than 9th in the conference and never made the NCAAT.

Gottfried was given six and showed promise but was fired for cause as the NCAA came looking for rules violations.

Keatts was given 8 seasons and aside from one magical three week run didn't greatly underperfory outside of that.

Which coach do you think want given enough time? Which coach if they were at Duke would you have given more time?

My answer to both questions is none. The issue for me is not the amount of time spent. My point is their (State) criteria for hiring coaches. Your correct, all five had losing ACC records but State hired them. Bad coaching/coaches is one thing but getting the same results 5 times.... They need to change something in how they pursue and select coaches. Even if they were not there, who else were they going to get? Even now who are they going to get?
