FB: Duke 26, Elon 3

Much has yet to be written about this season. Midnight Mike's first Duke season was in most respects an anomaly for first-year coaches at non-elite football programs. I expect Duke to struggle this season, just as I expected them to stuggle in Elko's first season; I do not expect to be as similarly thrilled this year as I was for that year, but will admit the feeling going into the season is more optimistic. Much will depend on how well Diaz will get the team motivated and keep them there, which I think was Elko's super power while he graced us with his presence. And a lot will depend on just how anemic the rest of the conference remains.

FWIW, NW is a 3-pt favorite in early lines.

In my view, it ain't worth much... Not a betting man, but I'd take that line based on both our first games (which admittedly don't tell us a whole lot). Miami(OH) is certainly a higher quality opening opponent than Elon, but my guess is that Northwestern fans were hoping for more than a 13-6 victory. The Wildcats had difficulty moving the ball and difficulty scoring. Their D was solid. That basically describes our opener as well, but our D arguably looked better (again, inferior opponent, but statistically our defensive performance was more of what one would expect). NW coughed it up twice, and Diaz's D is predicated on havoc, which we saw in spades in our game (again, 16 TFLs and 8 sacks). Given one would assume the defenses will dominate per the opening performances of both teams, I'd put my money on ours over NWs. Close line makes sense, and NW favored by 3 with a home field basically means bookies think this game is a dead even wash.

I'll be expecting a low scoring game...NU usually has a sticky defense and a very unspectacular offense, and that's how they looked yesterday.
I see Draft Kings and some others have NU as a 1.5 to 2.5 pt favorite, whatever.

On FanDuel I lost my unc bet on a last second field goal. Duke game same. But it's all coming back and then some. I bet a hundred at 10/1 for devils to win hoops championship.

So did any DBR members actually go on the Devils Deck or is the set of people willing to pay for the experience mutually exclusive to the interest to post on DBR?
I watched most of the game there. Though there are some kinks to be worked out on food and drinks, I found it a very nice option/addition overall. I'm not sure how much impact it will have on attendance (maybe some in terms of raising the floor), but there is a reason why most new or newly renovated athletic facilities include spaces like the Devils Deck. And it will have the added benefit of reducing the visual of empty end zone seats.

NU has a better defense than Elon...so our offense needs to be tuned up if we expect to win, which we may well do.
