FB: Duke 26, Elon 3

Duke is a 23.5 points favorite and the over/under is 48.5 points:

Discuss the first game of the Manny Diaz / Maalik Murphy era here. Who is going to be at Wallace Wade Stadium Friday night? I will be there.
Mrs PDDuke and I will be on our per usual perch in section 28. I suspect we’ll see vanilla. Looking for crisp, no penalties, no injuries, and no band led welcome to our friends from Elon.
Go Duke

Wild horses couldn’t keep me away. I’ll be there in section 28 in the seats my family has had for 64 years - one of the great benefits of growing up in Durham son of a Duke graduate civil engineer. In honor of our former coach Red Shirley Wilson we need to beat the pants off of Elon. Go Duke!

Does anyone have a sense of our team this year? I know prognosticators have us around .500 and bottom third of the ACC. Is there reason for optimism?
Yes but would want to see the two deep. Many skill offensive players but OL is a mystery. Many new parts. Manny says it is progressing well Prognosticators know less than our avid fans due to many new faces. I expect a bowl for what little that is worth

Several seasons ago that would have been quite the result! Based on what I have read/heard/schedule, I'm hoping for seven wins. Four conference wins, and out of conference loss. One surprise conference win against someone we won't be predicted for.

I'd call that success. Plus a bowl game.

I think that's where the official o/u is, but they (in the words of a famous man) are misunderestimating us, or so I think.
Let’s hope so. I worry with a new regime and new QB that we take a bit of a step back this season. Of course the ACC may not be very good either…

I worry about the defense more than the “new regime and new QB.” Depth on D could be an issue. Linebacker stands out to me.

I will not be there, but four young Mexican Americans, who have never been to a college football game, will be there. My staffer and her sister, brother, and beau.
4Gen, that's pretty cool. Here's hoping they have a great time at the game and come away with at least somewhat of an appreciation for it.

The Devils Den preview today has linebacker as a strength, lots of new faces and depth there, and two returning starters.

Its the battle between the student body that everyone says is from NJ against the student body where everyone is actually from NJ. I'll be there on Friday to see how Murphy and this new offense does. I don't know if I'm cautiously optimistic about this season, I really have no read on it. Last time I was hopeful about a new QB coming in, it was Chase Brice.

You needed to drive on I-85 north this weekend. It did nothing to remove this stereotype. I saw more NJ minivans with Duke stickers than I ever saw regular cars from NJ on campus. (Yes, I know this was upperclass move-in.)

Yes, I plan to attend with guarded skepticism that I hope becomes optimism.

I can't really speak to that, but I live in Burlington and it seems like most of the Elon kids have NJ or MD license plates. A large bulk of them seem to be from the northeast anyway.
