Duke Women's Soccer 2024

I'm taking my grandkids and my son and daughter in law to the opening round NCAA Tournament game tonight. Anyone else going?

Should we beat Howard, Texas Tech will be likely opponent.
Their coach is nonother than Duke legend Tom Stone, the man scored the famous goal in 1986 in the 1-0 win over Akron for Duke's only national championship in soccer
Tommy Stone was my counselor when I attended the Duke Soccer Camp- the same camp that made me want to attend Duke. I grew up in Dallas and was coached by Michael Linenberger while he was in high school, who was also on that championship team.

I am debating going. I'm still really angry about women's basketball last night, and I have not yet decided whether or not it would even be an enjoyable experience for me.

Dominant performance as expected. Howard got the ball into our half of the field maybe five times all game. Hats off to their goalie who was really good at positional awareness and intercepted several crosses that would have had us up even more early on. Also their fan section was great, they showed up and supported their players in a positive way without resorting to whining or ref blaming which so often happens.

Not much else to say other than it was a fun night watching us repeatedly make the other team look silly.

Duke beat Howard 8-0, but Howard's best player may have been their keeper. We had 19 shots on goal, and but for a couple spectacular saves, we could easily have scored in the double digits.

Howard's fan were great, BTW. Very vocal, but extremely positive thoughout the game. Even as we're attacking up 7-0, they were encouraging their own players and never denigrating Duke or complaining about the officials. It's a pleasure to host a fan base like that.

ETA: Posted at almost exactly the same time as UC, but I'm leaving it up for emphasis. That two of us would simultaneously write almost the identical observations is pretty remarkable.

I consider it a compliment that we have such similar thoughts :) . For whatever reason I can get weirdly obsessive about watching the opposing team's fan base when I attend sporting events. Again, Howard's crew was great.
