What’s the word on Jess Oakland? Was fully expecting her to play a lot - B10 POY and 2nd team A-A. Haven’t seen her take the field.

Not eligible. Softball and baseball transfers must transfer in before fall semester to be eligible for the upcoming season, apparently.
She will be a major part of next year’s team.

I'm sure this was known in advance but its baffling as to why Oakland would want to sit out a season. I presume there must be some NIL even as she sits. She can spend the time in the batting cages and fielding grounders in practice. I believe she has 2 years of eligibility left.
It sure seems like there was some issues with her prior school that made her decide late that she’d rather sit out a year than play another a season for them.
But yes you are correct she has two years eligibility remaining.

Amazing endurance being able to pitch so much in consecutive games. These ladies rock.
I could fire a ball 80 mph back in the day, but would need several days rest before pitching again. Now, I throw out my arm after tossing 1-2 apples into the woods behind our house for the deer…and throw out my back immediately after when I turn the doorknob to go back into the house.
LOL, yea, I feel your pain here!
For what it’s worth, the softball pitching motion is supposedly less taxing on their arms….but yes I agree it can get insane.
That said, I expect until later in the year they’ll try to find a way to have other pitchers share the load. It may result in a few extra losses till we figure it out tho.

Also to add to the above, one minor lineup change - Linh Le is starting at DP and Burgess remains in the doghouse and is on the bench. Last game (Kentucky) Terrell started, got one at bat and then Burgess replaced her. Given that Burgess breaking out is one of the most likely ways for Duke to be a top ten team this year, it’s a little concerning

No idea? She was in and out of the lineup at times in favor of worse hitters last year as well. But she was also a frosh last year and not so good a hitter as for it to be a huge error so it wasn’t too concerning
3-0 duke so far. Only one out in the inning - again no video but it appears Duke tried the double steal from first and third trick that worked magic last year except they caught Vega at home. So all five batters so far have gotten hits.
Edit: duke doesn’t score further so 3-0 after 1. Feels like this could be a quick one though.
