i think not.Does a bowl game count towards the 4-game threshold?
i think not.Does a bowl game count towards the 4-game threshold?
Your are correct.i think not.
Does the redshirt rule apply to the postseason?
No. In August, the NCAA announced a blanket rule (17.11.6.2 Annual Exemptions) that will exempt postseason games from counting toward a player's four allotted games in a given season. The new rule went into effect immediately for the 2024 college football season.
As ridiculous as that sounds, it's not unlikely. Somehow we're in a world where previous conference affiliations (e.g. Pac-12) are being used for this year's and next year's bowl selections. What happened to our bowl projection thread? CBSsports.com has Duke projected to the Sun bowl December 31 which would be cool except our opponent is projected to be Cal out of the PAC 12 Yeah nice work there CBS.

Week 13 rankings: Duke Football has 2 votes in the AP Poll and 9 votes in the Coaches Poll.
Week 14 rankings: Duke Football has 6 votes in the AP Poll (31st overall) and 31 votes in the Coaches Poll (28th overall).
what's a muchy performance? Yeah, rankings are weird, Army moved way up the rankings based on literally the easiest schedule in all of FBS football, and they got curb stomped yesterday, but they're still ranked way higher than they should be...22nd today in the coaches poll, #60 ranking from Sagarin whose methodology this time of year isn't bad.My initial reaction is that seems like a travesty, but in looking at the poll it seems 'meh.' I could make an argument that we should be ranked ahead of many teams from 15-25, but I can also see the argument against ranking us ahead of any of those teams. It all usually comes out in the wash anyway—just win and things tend to work themselves out...
I'd say solid win last night, but it was a pretty muchy performance... Great to see us win on senior night anyway!
Yeah I’m good with those optionsI think CBS now has Duke matched with Minnesota at Mayo January 3. Another source has that same matchup in Tampa's ReliaQuest Bowl December 31. But both 247 Sports and Sporting News instead project Duke playing Missouri, either in the Gator Bowl January 2 or the Music City Bowl December 30. Frankly, either matchup would be appealing to me, but a Gator Bowl invite sure would be sweet.

3 of Louisville’s 4 losses are to teams that will be in the Top 10 this week (ND, Miami, SMU). I guess they get a pass for the Stanford loss. The polls are overwhelmingly based on record. The group of 5 conferences get bumped down by about one loss, so you have these tiers:
- Undefeated power conference: #1 Oregon
- One-loss power conference/undefeated group of five: #2 Ohio State, #3 Texas, #4 Penn State, #5 Notre Dame, #7/8 Miami, #9 SMU, #10 Indiana
- Two-loss power conference/one-loss group of five: #6 Georgia, #7/8 Tennessee, #11 Boise State, #12 Clemson, #14/15 Arizona State, #17 Iowa State, #19/20 BYU, #22/25 Army
That's 16 teams that are pretty much guaranteed to be ranked (and almost exclusively in the top 16). The next tier includes:
- 2-loss Tulane (#18)
- 2-loss Memphis (#23/27)
- 2-loss UNLV (#21)
- 2-loss Louisiana (#31/32)
- 2-loss Liberty (-)
- 3-loss Alabama (#13)
- 3-loss Ole Miss (#15/16)
- 3-loss South Carolina (#14/16)
- 3-loss Texas A&M (#19/20)
- 3-loss Missouri (#24)
- 3-loss Illinois (#22/25)
- 3-loss Colorado (#23/27)
- 3-loss Kansas State (#26)
- 3-loss Duke (#28/31)
- 3-loss Syracuse (#28/29)
- 3-loss Washington State (#30/32)
The only other team in the top 32 is #29/30 4-loss Louisville.
Without a signature win, it feels like ~#30 is about right..towards the bottom the that tier in the cluster with Syracuse, Washington State, and Louisiana (and for some reason Louisville).
Yeah the issue with Duke’s resume is that none of our wins is impressive. All of the losses are reasonable.2 of Duke's 3 losses are to teams that will be in the Top 10 this week and one was in overtime. Will we get a pass for the Georgia Tech loss, or are our wins not good enough?
But first we have to take care of business at Wake.
Good deal. Updated projections posted on 2024 FB Bowl Watch thread.Wrong thread.
2024 FB Bowl Watch
With the team now at 5-0, it's perfectly reasonable to fire up the Bowl Watch thread. Our schedule never gets easier, but this team has proven that they can get it done. So, at the end of week five and an undefeated record, here's where ESPN sees us. Dec 31st Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl Sun Bowl...forums.dukebasketballreport.com
