Virginia Tech with 3 players in the list of 11; nobody else with more than 1. One would expect that to translate to being one of the top two or three teams in the conference; though, of course, 2 of those 3 players received a combined total of 3 votes, and individual players typically don't have as large an impact on football, where depth is incredibly important.

Still, interesting to note.

Well, starting QBs do have a large impact and VT's is #4 on the list (and the #2 QB). Though I think that's more a reflection of there being few returning starting QBs around the conference than of Drones really being that good or impactful. He's a very good runner and legitimate dual threat but just OK as a passer IMHO.

saw a fairly interesting video on the Devils Den with a conversation with David Feeley, strength and conditioning guy for football. Very impressive. Hope we can retain him long term, he seems to really like Duke, but people are going to start throwing even bigger bucks at him soon I suspect.
(I'm sure he's getting a good deal from Duke now, he's no secret).

I'm sure that Elko and A&M flashed the cash. (It was initially reported that he was following Midnight Mike.) The fact that he stayed says lots.

I’m very late to the discussion because my internet time was limited the past two weeks while on travel to California for work. I absolutely hate the Devils Deck because it takes away my seat in the top of Section 19.

Boo! Boo! Boo!

Maybe they got tired of you yelling at them to run the ball? ;-)

I enjoyed hanging out in that part of the stadium as well. I'm going to reserve judgment until I see it. And whether I am a fan of it or not, I hope it draws in more people and makes the game day experience a reason to come out to Wally Wade.

Curious... from where in the stadium? Any thoughts?
I’m not sure yet. The email I received indicates I should remain in Section 19 but sit lower in the section. My issue with that option is the lower you sit the harder it is to see action on the south end of the field. Moreover, I have arthritis in both knees so walking down and back up stairs is uncomfortable.

I will most likely try to sit in a different section so I can stay high. Probably will not decide until I put eyes on the situation.

Thanks... dedicated fans like you are priceless :)

I am someone who has advocated for it, at least conceptually, based on beliefs that 1) expanding capacity during the renovation was a big mistake and 2) virtually every new/updated college or pro venue in a major sport these days has a space (or multiple spaces) like this. So while I'm reserving judgment on the specific design and attributes of the Devils Deck, I do applaud Duke for at least trying something along these lines. Just like I'm glad the Dems finally got Biden to stand down (was an early advocate of this, too), though Kamala would not have been my first choice.

You could sit in the Devils Deck :)

Yea, Bob, but wait until the water slide and pool go in. THEN, you'll be happy!

Bob, go ahead and bite the bullet and get those knees replaced. Knee replacement has come a long way. Had both replaced and no problems.

GoDuke!

My problem with the Devils Deck is the apostrophe problem.

I recognize that language is fluid and that the forces of evil will win out. Even the Apostrophe Protection Society went defunct in 2019, prompting its 96-year-old founder to assert that “ignorance and laziness present in modern times have won!"

#stayoffmylawn

I also recognize that apostrophes won’t become extinct, they’ll just get resurrected as commas.

I still own my cringes (which doesn’t get an apostrophe, unless I’m saying that my cringes are in possession of something, which seems unlikely unless I let them swell in power and ultimately own my soul).

I’d prefer a floating apostrophe. The Blue Devil mascot could make his/her way to the Deck every game, and while the mascot is on site, it would be the Devil’s Deck. When the mascot is on the sidelines, the fans would be considered the host, and the apostrophe would move over a bit, both to demonstrate the pluralistic support of the team and to remind people that Duke is a school and not just a sports marketing organization.

My problem with the Devils Deck is the apostrophe problem.
While that is one approach, personally, I was looking for the direct object. I kinda think they should just have a big sign with the opponent's name that they drape over the wall to right of the word "Deck" after each win to tell you who they decked.

I don't know if Devils Deck is possessive or not...like Devils Den...need clarification, and I say this as a member of the apostrophe police who once amended some signs, specifical the name of people on their cottage signs...."The Smith's" drove me nuts. I'd cover the apostrophe.

I’m surprised it’s not “Smithfield Foods Deck” or some such. The naming rights can’t be far behind.
