Duke Baseball 2024, ACC Champs!

3. Florida State
4. Clemson
6. Virginia

9. Duke (40-20, 16-14)

The Blue Devils return an impressive array of talent in 2025, thanks in no small part to a quietly great draft for them. All-American closer Charlie Beilenson and No. 1 starter Jonathan Santucci must be replaced, but the Blue Devils again set up well on the mound. Starters Andrew Healy and Kyle Johnson return, as does Gabriel Nard, who ranked second on the team to Beilenson in appearances.

Offensively, top hitter Ben Miller returns, as do Wallace Clark and Freshman All-American AJ Gracia. Duke has all the ingredients of a team that can make a lot of noise in 2025.

12. UNC
13. NC State
22. Stanford
25. Wake Forest

It's good to see Stanford in there. Cal isn't bad either. SMU doesn't have a baseball team. I assume they will put Cal and Stanford in opposite divisions as permanent opponents to minimize their travel.

This is big news for college baseball. Moving from 11.5 scholarships to 34 full scholarships is remarkable.
As also discussed in NIL thread, we will add 20 football scholarships; now we must add 22.5 baseball to appear competitive/keep our coaches? So with Title 9, we either add same number to women’s total or cut 40+ out of non-revenue men’s total. I’ve got no idea which way the trustees and Nina will go.

I just saw on twitter that Coach Pollard has announced that construction of improvements to our baseball facilities has begun, which is great. Have they made the design and timeline for completion public?

Just noticed on Duke Baseball's FB feed (from 2 days ago) that Griffin Conine is now a major leaguer, called up to the Marlins. Here's the story.

I posted on the OT MLB thread. Conine started the last two nights for the Marlins after pinch-hitting in the first game. In his first start, he went 2-3, with a double and triple and two runs scored. He also threw out a runner at the plate (from the outfield), in a game the Marlins won by one run. Last night he went 1-4 with an RBI.

Did anyone else read goduke.com's transfer recap and find some of the blurbs weirdly worded?
Weirdly worded how? Seems like Duke is now picking up a decent number of Ivy League players/grads who want to continue their collegiate baseball careers. I've lost track of the eligibility of the extra Covid year but are they taking advantage of that or did they miss a season of Ivy League baseball?

Or did they graduate in three years?

This is the final season where players can use their bonus covid year. Ivy League schools will not let you stick around for a fifth year so they are particularly ripe because if a player wants to use the fifth year, they must go elsewhere.

As much as Duke has benefitted from this, I am looking forward to it being over with.

My wife and I were watching the Nashville Sounds host Jacksonville last Saturday, and we were like "hey, that's Griffin Conine!". I was wearing my Duke baseball shirt, and I credit our support with putting him over the top :p

On paper, Duke’s offense should be pretty good. Along with the strong transfer bats coming in, several key position players return (Ben Miller, Wallace Clark, AJ Gracia, KJ Johnson, Macon Winslow, Tyler Albright). Noah Murray (Ethan’s little brother) is another to keep an eye, as well as Sophomore Sam Harris. Both had outstanding success in summer ball.

David Boisvert, Gabe Nard, KJ Johnson, Andrew Healy, James Tallon, and Ryan Higgins are key returning pitchers. If a couple of the transfers and freshmen work out, pitching should be fine.

I didn't want to create too much bias for people reading it to see if it also seemed off to them in any way. It feels like either somebody was not that thoughtfully writing them or maybe used some AI assistance. Like in Jake Berger's blurb, why would you ever mention how many times an incoming player has grounded into a double play? Similarly, Marcello Mastroianni's blurb mentioned how many home runs he's given up. I am assuming Gavin Brown had a medical redshirt in 2021, so why not say that instead of mentioning his ERA in one appearance? There are tons of facts and a lot of generic praise, but no mention of Ben Rounds being First Team All-Ivy or anything like that.

Maybe I was feeling a little skeptical this morning, but a lot of these seem like word salad with no cohesion to me. I might still be a little tough on Duke Sports Information after the time that @CameronBornAndBred and I had to point out to them that one of their writers plagiarized so blatantly from his site that even UNC tutors would have thought that it went too far.
