Duke Alums on the 2024 PGA and LPGA Tours

Farmers Open began yesterday to avoid Sunday NFL games and 2nd round underway. Tough sledding for our guys as Streelman WDs after horrendous start and both Smalley and Long will most likely not make the cut.

Greyserman is at the cut line halfway through his round.

0-4, all missed the cut.

Pretty gritty play by Leona today. She was 3 outside the cut line with 7 holes to go and birdied 4 of her next 6 to comfortably make the cut. She had a bad first 29 holes (at least scoring) and simply did what she had to do to play the weekend.

Thank you for the Leona status report.

You're welcome. Leona is my favorite golfer (female or male). I fully expect her to win a major this year. It's hard to fathom that Leona is older than Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko.
I'll go you one better. Leona is my favorite professional athlete, of any sport or gender. Of course, I do not follow pro football or basketball, so there is that.

Alex tees off at 9:33 PST in his first signature event. He has alternated good and bad weeks so far this year and luckily/hopefully is up for a good one, although he has not played well on the Monterey Peninsula. Lots of extra money and points at stake, he needs to make hay.

I can't find if Tyrrell Hatton's move to LIV moves Alex one spot closer to exemption to all signature events since it's happening during the regular season. If it does, and Wyndham Clark also moves over, Alex will need just one more defection.

Alex gets another shot at a signature event, teeing off last at 12:06 PST. It will be his last one if he doesn't start playing better. His game is certainly off, he's only had 2 really good outings in the past 14 months. I hope he can find the solution.

Alex makes the turn at E and in the back half (really third) of the field. He needs to go -2 coming in to stay within range of the leaders. One of the oldest adages in golf is that you can't win the tournament on Thursday, but you can lose it.

Edit: Well, so much for that. He bogeys #10, taking 4 shots to get down from 94 yards out.

Alex dead last. I feel a little bit bad for him (after all, he's still a multi-millionaire playing a game for a living) and a little bit bad for me (golf is the only pro sport I follow anymore, and outside the majors (thanks mkirsh) I don't even pay attention if Alex is not in the field).

I thought the signature events didn't have cuts because of the small fields, but this one does. Alex will be getting nothing out of this big purse and points opportunity.

Alex will try again next week (along with Max, Adam is an alternate). It's a weak field, only a few players in the top 50, maybe he can turn it around.

Just saw Streelman has a back injury (he WD’d a few weeks ago in a tourney) and will not play this week either. Hope he recovers soon as possible valuable points are lost each week.

Max ended the first round at -1 and Alex was even. It looks like the cut will be -2 so both have some work but are in range.

Leona (-7) and Jaravee Boonchant (-9) are both in the top ten after round 2 at the Honda LPGA Thailand Championship. Leaders are at -10.
