2025 Men's Basketball Recruiting

It makes sense. The overall trend is not great for us IMO.

I don't think Flagg or Maluach or Evans or K2 are at Duke because we offered the biggest and best NIL package. As the agents have more influence and multiple offers get lined up side by side in the springtime, it seems like Duke will be under more pressure to at least match the $ offers of other schools, diminishing the value of our other advantages in recruiting.

I'm sure we will still get our share of top recruits and transfers, but we have to also stay competitive with our overall NIL budget to keep pace.
I have most assuredly heard from people who say Duke's reputation as a school that produces a ton of high draft picks who succeed in the league (and the genuine camaraderie of The Brotherhood) helps us immensely when recruiting the tippy top recruits. Cooper Flagg, who knows he is going to be making $8+ mil in a year (the 4th pick in next year's draft will start at a salary of $8.34 mil) is not looking for the program that is going to pay him $200-grand more than someone else. He's looking for the program that will get him as ready as possible to be the #1 overall pick in the draft.

I need to do some digging on Duke player salaries now... I have an idea.

I totaled up all the salaries of Duke players this coming season in the NBA. It comes to approx. $311 million. That is a somewhat flawed number though as both Luke Kennard and Tyus Jones are free agents (I used their salaries from last year) and there are still some formal steps to be done to determine exactly what McCain and Kyle will make. We also don't know if some of the guys in the G-League or overseas may come back and claim a contract.

I was going to compare it to Kentucky, but it is not a good comparison because Kentucky has more established stars from the early 2010s than Duke does and those guys are all on more veteran contracts. At the moment, guys like Paolo and Tatum are terribly underpaid -- something that will resolve itself quite nicely in the next couple years.

Still, $300+ mill next season for Dukies is really impressive!

Carolina, by the way, is at less than $80 million.

Tatum terribly underpaid? I thought he just signed a really big contract.

GoDuke!

It does not kick in until the 25-26 season. He makes $34 mil next year. The year after it jumps to (approx.) $54 mil.
And $34 mil. is underpaid. SMH.

Yeah, I know about market forces and who gets the money if Tatum doesn't, etc., etc. But dang, the raw numbers are just stupid.

A story this morning says that the pursuit of Brandon Burries is cooling off.

Are you referring to this article?

Eric Bossi: "His recruitment's been pretty interesting. I think this time a year ago, we were really thinking Duke [and] Arizona were really the teams that were way up there; they're certainly still involved a little bit but may be fading some. Kansas is in there a little bit as well.

"But the two that I would watch as of today — I'm gonna give you two to watch and then a sleeper — would be UCLA, a local school, and then Houston. Houston has really gotten in there deep...Now, recently, Tennessee has jumped in...They've got some family ties with Burries."

Looked up individual Cheat salaries next year in NBA. Appears only the Black Falcon is in the top 100 and barely so.

Repeat one (1) Cheat grad in the top 90 something and maybe only Cole Anthony is an emerging fairly good player in years to come.

Oh how they have fallen.

Aj Dybantsa and Cam Boozer are the clear 1a and 1b in this class.

Both unstoppable at the international level. USA dominating canada by 40 pts so far.

Although Dennis Acuff Jr was great for the U19s as well. So he could be the 1c.

Anyone heading to Peach Jam this weekend ?
Maybe this weekend but definitely next week. I don’t follow recruiting all that much and usually go with a UK friend who does, so I rely on this board and him to tell me our Nike targets. Anybody got a rundown?

PeachJam is starting here in town. Anyone know who I need to see that is playing this year? (I really do not follow recruiting, but had a chance over the years to see some great players there).

Thanks in advance.

Cam Boozer, Cayden Boozer, and Caleb Wilson (Nightrydas Elite); Meleek Thomas (New Heights Lightning); and AJ Dybantsa (Oakland Soldiers) all have 2025 Duke offers and will be at Peach Jam. There are likely other I'm missing.

Nightrydas are the obvious must watch for Duke fans. Oakland is probably worth checking out to see Dybantsa (top player in 2025) play alongside Tyran Stokes (top player in 2026).

Thanks! I had a chance to watch the Boozer brothers play Cooper Flagg two years ago — Bronny flopped down next to me.
