2024 Olympics - General commentary

they don't play defense and expect the other team to fear their half court one on one.....they're also very careless with the ball.......

Agree about the carelessness but the defense was very good until the team started all the dumb turnovers. Australia also got some good bounces on blocked/tipped balls. The issue with this team is cohesion and honestly Lebron doesn’t look right or isn’t giving 100% yet. Curry was a liability today and is not what this team needs on defense, so his impact overall was negative. Even Jrue was bad in the second half - of course he and Tatum are probably exhausted.

The team played tight which might be a preview of what happens in a close game.

Quite a high scoring first quarter against Serbia. I must admit, I could have used a trigger warning before seeing Uros Plavsic on the court. Somewhere Rick Barnes is smiling.

Work interfered with my post Q1 watch, but I was able to turn the game on again to see the US up 30 and Bill Raftery saying that we looked extremely locked in....so we got that going for us, which is nice.

Your post doesn’t explicitly mention which sport you are watching.

Since you bring up Uros Plavsic, I assume that you are referring to Greco-Roman wrestling.

No, that's not it. Uros Plavsic® is the brand name of a new medicine for good prostate health. "Somewhere Rick Barnes is smiling" because he's their main endorser in late night TV commercials.

Ask your doctor if Uros Plavsic® is right for you.

Next up for Team USA is South Sudan (with Khaman "Eileen" Maluach) in London over the weekend.
I just read Maluach didn’t even make the team. Is this correct? Doesn’t bode well for us. Hoping that is a false report.

I have not seen anything definitive but it would not be all that shocking. The Olympics are full of MEN and Khaman is still just 17. If South Sudan thinks taking guys a decade or more older than him is the smartest thing to do, I cannot argue with that logic.

And if he does not make the team is puts him back in Durham to work with his teammates about a month sooner than anticipated. That's a good thing!

Yeah plus team defense is super important and Maluach is still too new to the game. My guess is he was missing assignments or slow to react and just does not have the practice time to get up-to-speed. Hopefully, a few months practicing with our team will get him where we need him.

If Maluach didn't make the team then why isn't he in Durham right now? Was there a tryout that happened yesterday? This is all very confusing.

I continue to find Ball Durham to be a trash blog. Their writing is weak and they often exaggerate or outright misreport information. For example, the roster that is referenced in the article hasn't been updated in a while. Meanwhile, the South Sudan Basketball Federation Instagram Account just posted this link in prep of their game against Great Britain:
You'll notice that Khaman Maluach is featured in the graphic and tagged in the post.
