2024 NBA Summer League

The start of the Las Vegas Summer League means more games and more chances to pick up fouls. Cam Spencer wasted no time in picking up 8 fouls for Memphis. Noah Clowney then used overtime to surpass that with 9 fouls for Brooklyn. Mouhamed Gueye had 7 fouls for the Hawks.

I remember last year on the Field of 68 Doug Gotlieb before the season said Bonney was a 3-4 yr player at a mid major. After he said it people were shocked. Mostly because he had the balls to say what a lot of people thought but won't. I am not a Gotlieb guy but I like guys who speak the truth rather than guys who are yes men. Bronny is just too small and can't shoot.
You don’t like 0 for 8 from 3; 3 of 14 overall? At least he started and I’m sure LeBron didn’t influence that decision😃.

If they needed the extra time to put together an all-Villanova summer roster, that would have been awesome, and all is forgiven. Alas...

The New York Knicks brought up the rear and gave us a pretty conventional roster that's fine, but not worth the wait. To tap into another DBR thread, I feel like sports fans in the Tri-State area should redirect some of their Daniel Jones hostility toward whoever in the Knicks decided to dedicate their social media toward week-old Mikal Bridges news instead of making their roster announcement.

It is interesting to see Alex O'Connell, formerly of Duke and more recently of Creighton, resurface here. Those familiar with my Summer League threads from past years know the style convention I use: Duke players get colorful bold text, while Duke's outgoing transfers get conventional bold text. I consider him (and Sixers summer player Jordan Tucker) to be Duke-adjacent, but I'll still cover them.

After lying dormant in 2023, the Knicks were very active in the 2024 draft, making a total of 8 trades in the first and second rounds. They ended up with Pacome Dadiet, Tyler Kolek, Kevin McCullar, and Ariel Hukporti, all of whom are listed above.

From what I can tell, Alan Griffin, who finished his college career at Syracuse, is the only player here the ACC can claim. The Knicks are not currently scheduled to play the Houston Rockets in Vegas, so Alan will not be facing his younger brother, AJ Griffin.

And that's it for the announcements. 30 NBA teams have rosters in place for Las Vegas Summer League, which runs from July 12-22.
It’s funny. Not only did I not remember that Jordan Tucker was at Duke, I STILL don’t remember it. All I can say is the name is vaguely familiar.

Not even close.

Tucker played 14 total minutes in a Duke uniform. Schutt was just one mop up appearance shy of hitting 100 minutes.
fair enough. I was using the Schutt comparison to get at the idea that in a few years, most Duke fans will be hard pressed to recall that Jaden played for Duke.

Well, if he ends up being a significant player for Va Tech (their roster has been decimated, he is going to play a lot I suspect) we may remember him more as we get reminded every time we play them. But I get your point.

Thanks! I'm like the DBR version of the late pro wrestler-turned-character actor, 6-5 Tommy "Tiny" Lister Jr, who played the galactic president in The Fifth Element and the boat convict in The Dark Knight:

My username used to be accurate. Most of my points (and sporks) came from my series of humorous one-line posts. I've become more long-winded in my old age.
This actor has played in several memorable movies but none are more famous than his role as Deebo in the cult classic Friday.

Saturday was a day of normal fouling levels, but Sunday made up for it. Jay Huff started by picking up 8 fouls for the Magic. Ochai Agbaji then picked up 7 for the Raptors. Adama Sanogo decided to keep going until he had to stop, picking up the full 10 for the Bulls.

I was on a plane yesterday/last night and was bored and watched some summer league. The #1 pick Rissacher and the Bulls lottery pick Matas Buzelis are both weak physically and man, they are SOFT. I'm sure they'll have some good moments here and there and maybe they'll turn into players but right now . . . wow just not impressive at all. Hard to believe that teams wouldn't rather have taken their chances with established, experienced and physically mature players like Clingan, Edey, Castle, and Knecht over guys like these.

I have never been impressed with Buzelis starting from when I saw him his junior year in HS. Soft, average NBA athleticism, and just nothing that moves the needle for me. If he can hit 3s, he has nice size to get minutes but totally agree he doesn’t look like a career NBA player to me right now.

Adem Bona opened up Monday's fouling with 7 for Philadelphia. It was a team effort for Sacramento with Colby Jones picking up 7 fouls and Keon Ellis picking up 8 fouls.

Completely agree

I've never understood the hype with the kid and in every setting I've watched him play he's continued to underwhelm.

I'm glad I'm not alone.....felt like I was going a bit crazy!

Thank you all for keeping this thread going during my absence.

I was in the Burbank airport on a layover Monday afternoon, standing in a Guy Fieri-branded restaurant waiting to pick up someone else's order that I would probably have to help finish. I was anticipating the inevitable indigestion and questioning my general choices in life when I noticed the Spurs and Hawks playing a game on a big screen TV. And I realized: this is the first Summer League action I've gotten to see live this year. (As it turns out, it was a NBA TV re-broadcast of a Sunday game, but I didn't know that until now.)

I've missed a lot in 9 days, connected enough to continue posting roster announcements but not enough to access the games on TV. (The vacation rental had a difficult TV with no cable. The remote controls were so temperamental that once I had to unplug the TV just to turn it off. My viewing options were limited to a free "Project Runway" channel, surrounded by a pair of "Dance Moms" channels.) So I missed all of the California Classic and SLC Summer League, plus the first few days in Las Vegas.

It was a near-ascetic existence, and probably good for the purposes of going out and doing new things. I hadn't thought too much about what I missed until I reached the way station of Flavortown during my return journey.

I'm sure there's plenty to report. Give me a little time to catch up.

Noah Clowney got the fouling going on Tuesday with 7 for the Nets. Henri Drell had 7 fouls for the Bulls. Adem Bona hit the 7 foul mark on consecutive days for the Sixers while Jesse Edwards had 7 on the other side for the Timberwolves.
