2024 MLB Discussion

Per MLB. I thought he was valuable this year for us, especially at the end of the year. Solid.

His stats approximate his career stats:

Not quite as good as he did for the Redbirds in his one season, but not bad. I think the Cards are going with a mini-rebuild next season. I think Goldy is going to leave (FA), and it wouldn't surprise me to see Arenado, Contreras and Mikolas traded. The club still think Gorman and Walker will turn it around, but I'm concerned about their bat to ball skill. Too many Ks.

I know that TV ratings are king, but I don’t like the long time between games. We get spoiled with meaningful games almost every day starting in September and then suddenly a bunch of waiting.

And it is not at all good for the teams, who have momentum built up by winning their playoff series. I know I've said it before, but the '07 Rockies went flat after having to sit 9 days after their league championship win; that might still be a record, I don't know.

Totally agree. And I always think of Rocktober when it comes to momentum.

Agreed. The troubles of teams with byes in the current format have been well documented, too.

That said, given their arm issues (and Freddie Freeman's ankle), my guess is the Dodgers are perfectly happy to have the time off to set up their pitching for the World Series. They're probably of the mind that the Yankees bats have just as good a chance of going cold with a week off as theirs, but in the meantime they can avoid having a bullpen game right off the bat. It also gives Vesia and Graterol a better chance of returning in time.

Five-game series are a bit of a crapshoot. This year three out of four bye teams did win their series, though.

Great World Series Game 1. Dodgers just tied it up in the 8th with hitting from Ohtani and Betts. This is looking like it will be a great series.

Lots of wanker words. Aargh. Yanks made a few bad plays in innings 1-9 - shouldn't have gone to extra innings. He jacked that. Too bad Cole's incredible performance was wasted.

Sorry for you and Yankees fans, Crazy. I’m cheering for the Dodgers in this one because Freddie Freeman is one of my favorite players, and other reasons, but I’m not a big Dodgers fan or partisan. I just think it’s great that we have the two best teams for once, with the great history of these two clubs.

Lots of defensive plays that were not made that shaped this game. And a couple of key ones that were. But regardless, with that ending it will go down in history as one of the epic World Series games. If I'm not mistaken it was the first WS game in history to end on a walk-off grand slam. Wow.

I loved how Freddie held up his bat after he hit it. Freddie is no showboat but he felt the immensity of the moment.

Cut off the throw from Soto on Ohtani’s double and the Yanks take game one.

I have to sadly acknowledge the effects of aging when I can no longer muster significant hatred of the Jankees. Should be a good series.

It really hurts to lose a game like that, but somebody had to lose. You would think the Dodgers would have a big advantage now after stealing that game, and with the crushing nature of the loss for the Yankees, but this team is very resilient. I expect them to come back and take game two. And at that point the advantage would shift to New York.

I just have a feeling of inevitability about this Yankees team.

I'm sorry, but MLB needs to get new script writers. The ending last night just wasn't plausible.

The Hallmark channel is more believable.

Last night was the first “mistake” of Boone’s that I can point to this postseason. He had been pulling all the right levers before.
