I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!
What exactly is causing deaths? I realize it is the compromised or elderly that are most vulnerable to this extreme, but is it pneumonia that does them in or what?

I know each death is tragic for those impacted. That said, this is not the big one even if it goes pandemic, and a real opportunity for the world to learn and prepare for say the Guinessvirus or whatever the big one turns out to be.

Really? Not for me. There is a button that says “Continue Reading,” but it just opens the rest of the article (without any sign-in).

Yeah, sorry, I use adblock software on my normal browser and on mobile, so I didn’t realize there was anything there. But after testing on Edge (for which I haven’t installed any adblock software), I see that there is a pop-up that asks you to sign up for access.

Instead of giving an email address, you can also just install AdGuard on your phone and avoid the pop-up altogether.

Anyway, I thought the article itself was worth the read.

EDIT: Deleted ABP reference, as it doesn't block it either...just AdGuard on mobile, I guess.

I have ABP and still get asked for email. Without it, can't read.

Spreading in Washington state for 6 weeks?

With over 100 confirmed cases in France, the Paris half-marathon was cancelled today, and the Louvre is now closed due to COVID-19.

Here in the US, the President referred to coverage of the virus as a Democrat “hoax” at a campaign rally but then announced an expansion of screening measures at airports, now to cover travelers from Italy and Korea. Unfortunately, a recent study suggests such screens will catch a little less than half of infected travelers:

FWIW, as of last week, US airports using the temperature tests for travelers from China had not successfully caught a single case of the virus.

In an interview today, Mike Pence noted that 15,000 COVID-19 test kits are “in the mail” to various parts of the US, and the administration is attempting to procure another 50,000.

I realize they want to protect players and limit exposure but the players would still have to travel on planes and buses, stay are hotels eat at restaurants. They are more likely to get exposed there than by spectators. Exposes within the crowds is another story but that's not their justification.

If the corona virus knocks out March Madness, yes, the answer to this thread's question will be 'hysteria'!

Well, the CDC has things under control

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The CDC has mistakenly released a patient from the Texas Center for Infectious Disease who's test later came back positive for COVID-19, says San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg.

This isn't particularly surprising, given that the virus apparently has a much longer incubation period than other respiratory viruses and also the fact that we had no way of identifying it until just recently. Right now there is so much respiratory illness going around and so many circulating respiratory viruses that it would be easy for this coronavirus to "hide" in the crowd.

The difference being the larger number of really sick patients, I guess, although in the time that SARS-CoV-2 has managed to kill two Americans on American soil, there have been a couple of hundred deaths from influenza; so again, without testing, it would be hard to tell exactly what is going on.
