Ymm, Beer

Hey, you know what they say. Beer is like sex. When its good, its great. When its bad, its still pretty good.

I would disagree. I just won't drink a domestic lager from a macro-brewery. No taste and I just don't enjoy them. I won't drink them if they're free, and I frequently go to conferences where the domestics are free. Lately I have wished I liked Bud Light, so I could drink it. Just can't do it.

I am very much in agreement...I generally have one or two beers and I don't want to waste the experience on crappy macro beers (I will say that for years some of the Canadian standard beers have been considerably more flavorful than their American counterparts...

I believe in situational beer. If I'm mowing the lawn or settling in for 6 hours of NFL, I have no problem with a few cheap boring beers. Or if I'm at a baseball stadium with a hot dog in my hand. But if I'm having a nice meal or sitting in a beer garden, I can't imagine ordering something so light and flavorless.

Thank you for that. The long, beer thread nightmare is over. Let's put this behind us.

I've enjoyed Hillman's the times I've been there, especially the ability to eat and drink outdoors during the pandemic. The tables in the back along the creek are a lot more quiet than the ones on the road. The biggest drawback is that they are split between food and beer and are more limited in each area than places that specialize in one or the other.

I've not been to Cellarest, so I can't offer an opinion.

As I wrote in another thread, the very best brewery/taproom I've been to is cursus kĕmē:

https://smokymountains.com/asheville/breweries/cursus-keme/ and https://cursuskeme.com/

Hard to find (hidden off Swannanoa River road) but well worth it.

Section 15

Visited Cursus Keme for the first time on Saturday, and loved the place. Great inside and outside feel, and the beers I sampled were uniformly strong. Thanks again for the nudge in that direction.

Well not exactly.

Some of our old crew and I are uploading an AI virus which will copy/paste every beer review from Beeradvocate, Rate Beer, and Untappd on a minute-by-minute basis into this thread for the next 30 days. So that should start with about 52,000 posts and overtake the LTE in no time.

It's all in good fun. But my apologies, this virus upload is taking longer than I thought and it's slowing connectivity gateways and posting over here. Thanks for your patience, it should be all done and rolling soon.

Excellent! We have so many good beers and cheeses here, we feel lucky...
Make sure you keep them refrigerated!

I was pretty surprised. I got my usual local PA beer and my guy knows me and told me where it was.

Have they opened up distribution? It was always tight.

Skimming back. I’m with you. There are a lot of times when the cheap workman’s beers are perfect. Tubing. Long pool days. Breakfast. Other times beers go with meals.

I always liked this thread and the posters here too. I went through about a 5 to 7-year stretch where I drink ipas almost exclusively. But after my trip to Europe in the Alps a couple years ago I started just drinking lagers and maybe a hefeweizen in the Summers and Browns and porters in the winters. And I stand by my decision. I have also cut way back on drinking actually. When I traveled I used to have a local beer almost every night with dinner. And sometimes two. But as I've aged I have found that this made my pants shrink. So now I don't drink at all when I travel unless my girlfriend is traveling with me. And then she likes to have one. We probably average about two beers a week.

They are smart and nice people. They don’t want to get too big as they want to remain flexible and independent. There is a fair amount of competition here so they may be looking to expand distribution some. I admire their cautious approach

Last night I watched the beginning of The Last Seduction and was amazed to see significant product placement by Catamount Brewery. I believe they were the first craft brewery in VT, and I toured their brewery in 1989, but they were never big and went under sometime in the 90s, so it was strange to see their beers prominently displayed in a 1990s movie.

I liked this thread and the people on it, too!
Every once in awhile I tried to out post them but I thought it was all in good fun.

No idea what happened but if a few of the OG Ymm beer posters still poke around, I do wish them well and appreciate the fun of this thread.

Definitely one of the first. Harpoon bought them out.
