I debated swapping one of my greens for (what ended up being) purple, because I could errantlynforce a purple theme, but went with my gut. I am curious about your guesses for green…I had absolutely no idea about purple, but was pretty sure about the green theme. I cannot image the other groupings you tried and I know you don’t make random guesses.
I was way off. I had an inkling of the green theme (about 25% of the way there) and had something else in mind for purple (5%). I don't remember my guesses -- when you return to a failed Connections, it just shows the solution -- but there may have been a late night brute force element to them.
Looking at the solution now, and I'll be vague, there were a couple of green words that I thought were purple, one purple word that I thought was green, and one purple word that made no sense in either group.
I did the Sports Connections right after, and was about to meet the same fate, just being completely lost halfway through. I felt like my guesses were even weaker, but the second one was correct, and I got through it.
