I'm fine with the idea of the purple connection, but I don't love all four examples, and I didn't like how they phrased the connection in the solution.
In another online life, I made a similar/analogous list of people -- some real, some fictional -- who share a common trait.

So yesterday's purple connection for OCTOPUS, SHIVA, SLOT MACHINE, VENUS DE MILO should have been phrased as "Has something other than 2 arms". (Because of its long lever on the side and its tendency to take your money, the slot machine is nicknamed the one-armed bandit.)
Similarly, the people I listed above could be described as being known for having something other than 10 fingers.

Connections took a while to become clear to me (I was on the brink of making random, incorrect guesses). My first set of grouping bore no relationship to the correct groupings…fortunately I could only get 2-3 words in each of my incorrect categories. Getting purple was the key.

Yes…the category makes sense the way you phrase it. It did not they way they phrased it, at least to me. Of course, their phrasing had nothing to do with how quickly I was able to solve it. I did get that it had to do with arms (or legs). It was only when I saw their phrasing that I objected.
