respectfully, players are quitting on their teams by the hundreds......Tony is 55.....so what, 10-15 years left of professional life? Players who are 18 have what, 50 years left of professional life? And remember, it's ALL professional now.Respectfully, he quit on the team he put together if that's what it was.
Yes, because no member of an organized religion has ever done anything badHe's an ordained minister, can't picture him being a bad guy
actually, there's enough out now to lightly skip to some pretty likely conclusions...Maybe, just maybe, we should wait for the press conference before we jump to conclusions.
do you realize that you just put the rights of players who want to transfer over those who want to stay? run the logic......By retiring now, he's screwing over the players on his team. They could have transferred in April or May. Most rosters are set and teams are practicing. He's locked them into the season for all intents and purposes. My hope here is that something beyond his control or ego has led to this, because it will change my opinion of him if that's not the case.
College sports is out of control because of money! It's not as fun to watch anymore. I can imagine it's maddening to a veteran coach like Bennett.
Yes, true. Since maybe the late 70s, the money was been there, it just all belonged to the NCAA, the schools, the coaches and the sponsors. The players were indentured servants whose talents supported a multi-billion dollar industry. Coaches could "transfer" literally overnight while players were subject to the onerous rules of college athletics. The balance hasn't shifted entirely to the players side of the ledger but it has become more equitable and it has redefined "team loyalty" in a big big way. Players obviously have more bargaining power than they ever had in the past so the game has evolved into this transactional beast that has undermined fan loyalty, player loyalty...it's just a business and antithetical to what most traditional fans enjoy about collegiate sports. Unless some regulations are adopted soon, I think college sports as we know them will become further detached from the college/university system. Hopefully he is not leaving due to a family emergency though that theory is gathering momentum. But if he's leaving because he has grown tired of this new reality, really, it's a good for the goose, good for the gander sort of moment.respectfully, players are quitting on their teams by the hundreds......Tony is 55.....so what, 10-15 years left of professional life? Players who are 18 have what, 50 years left of professional life? And remember, it's ALL professional now.
Three years ago I'd have agreed with you. Perhaps I have taken the ramifications of this new era to heart a bit quicker than others.
Maybe ESPN is looking to dump Seth Greenberg after this season.Yes, because no member of an organized religion has ever done anything bad![]()
In what way did I do that? If the players at UVA want to stay, they can. But the players that don't want to play for an interim coach are screwed.do you realize that you just put the rights of players who want to transfer over those who want to stay? run the logic......
You mean Greenberg is on the bubble, yet again?Maybe ESPN is looking to dump Seth Greenberg after this season.
We'll see what Bennett says tomorrow at his press conference. But you are putting this on "those darned kids" without thinking about the specific team at UVA right now that are left with limited options for their limited playing career. My sincere hope is that Bennett told everyone there this would happen and they are all on board. If that's the case, I think he will have handled it well. If not, yeah, very weak and selfish move.respectfully, players are quitting on their teams by the hundreds......Tony is 55.....so what, 10-15 years left of professional life? Players who are 18 have what, 50 years left of professional life? And remember, it's ALL professional now.

We live in hope.Maybe ESPN is looking to dump Seth Greenberg after this season.
So what are you reading? This is not a Duke player or coach. We can share rumors.actually, there's enough out now to lightly skip to some pretty likely conclusions...
If I were to guess, I would think that’s a low since the Wooden era.Huh, only six active coaches in the NCAA with a title, and no conference has more than two. Big XII (Self, Drew), Big East (Hurley, Pitino), Big 10 (Izzo), and SEC (Cal).
Respectfully, he quit on the team he put together if that's what it was.
None of the coaches who won titles in the six seasons immediately before the COVID-cancelled tournament (Jay Wright twice, K, Roy, Ollie, Bennett) are currently active. Two old guys, two late-middle career guys who hung it up early, and one total flame out.If I were to guess, I would think that’s a low since the Wooden era.
What's the point of asking this now, prior to the announced press conference tomorrow? So what are we assuming is the reasoning as of this moment? Can’t seem to get a consensus, but generally hearing either a family health issue and/or upcoming scandal?
Maybe he is seriously tired of being a college hoops coach?l There have been signs for a couple of years...So what are we assuming is the reasoning as of this moment? Can’t seem to get a consensus, but generally hearing either a family health issue and/or upcoming scandal?
Why would a (former) Duke player EVER go to play for UNC?? Even if it would be a somewhat circuitous route, via a month at UVa.IC poster speculating they might go after TJ Power after Case Tyson's shaky performance at the 4 against Memphis. But can TJ cover Cooper?
