Seeing Duke Bball at Georgia Tech

I wasn’t sure the right board to put this on so starting with the off-topic board. Taking my mom to Nashville just before Christmas (going to see Amy Grant primarily). Duke happens to play at Georgia Tech on December 21 and I’m considering driving to Atlanta to see this game in person. It’s 3 1/2 hour drive 1 way. I live in Denver so I don’t get to see Duke play too often in person.

As long as good weather, looks like the drive would be pretty easy.

My questions for the group- has anyone seen a Duke game at Georgia Tech? What’s the atmosphere like? How are the fans?

Thanks!

It’s been awhile for me, but the fans are fine and intense for Duke games. A lot of the students may be gone that close to Christmas though so not sure what you’ll get.

You’ll have fun if you go.

My last game there was 2018. It’s usually a very fun atmosphere. There are a lot of local Duke alums in the area.

In Tech’s weaker years, when there wasn’t a lot of demand for tickets, you could expect a crowd about 30-40% Duke. That seems to have improved (for them) in recent years, and I think there’s more enthusiasm around their program since Stoudamire took over.

The arena is very small and can get very loud, especially from the students and especially for Duke. But, as OPK says, expect the students to be gone that close to Christmas.

I live in the ATL area and try to get to Duke games whenever they are here (football and BBall). The fans are great and cordial. Not as gracious as Clemson fans, but waaay better than Maryland!

Atlanta’s is a great town, so spending a night here can be cool. Great restaurants and things to do/see.

I just bought my tickets today 9n the official GA Tech site. There are still some face value tix left with not bad views. Really, all seats are pretty good there.

Resale tix are also available, but pricey. If you have the $, since you don’t get to see them often, you could get amazing tix at a $$$$$ price.

I went last year. It was a fine crowd, no problem at all if you are friendly. GA Tech is tremendous academic institution and also has several (5?) football national championships. Respect. Also, Atlanta has some fine establishments for cigars and libations such as Red Phone Booth downtown.

Thank you for helping me remember to order tickets! I was able to get a couple of resale tickets, 9th row to the side of the basket, for ~$250 each (the added fees on top of that kill you, though).

I've gone a couple of times at Georgia Tech, and always had a great experience. There is a lot of blue in the crowd, so you won't feel out of place cheering.

The tickets were only recently available single game ticket through GA tech. Previously, they Duke was only available via multi game package.

The resale market has been available a while. I love my Blue Devils, but would never pay $250 per ticket before fees.

I paid $85 each including fees for fourth row section 207. This was on the GA Tech website.

I go every time we play Tech and think it is a pretty good place to see a game. Not really any bad seats in there and the fans are generally pretty nice. The place will almost certainly be at least 25% Blue Devil fans, which can be fun.

I have lived in Atlanta my whole life and I attend this game every year.

McCamish is a very fun place to see a Duke game. There will be as many folks wearing Duke gear as there will be folks wearing Tech gear.

One year, I actually scored tickets to the Callaway Club, which is Tech's luxury alumni club level with an all-you-can-eat-and-drink buffet. This was still half full of Duke fans.

The Tech fans typically (as Chris Carrawell might say) start out very rah-rah at the chance to beat Duke. Then once we get up by 10-12, the building gets deflated a bit.

The venue itself is really nice for basketball, as long as you are not in the nose bleeds. All of the lower bowl/100 level seats are great! Tickets get dirt cheap on resale (Vivid, StubHub, Seat Geek) as the game gets closer. I would not pay over $100/ticket for the lower bowl.

Yeah, but in fairness, the Tech fans were quite into it last year when they beat us in Atlanta in the game where Proctor got hurt and Mark Mitchell taunted away a victory.

Go to 11:03, if you have forgotten

Yes, I said "typically".

I was there last year and heard it from several Tech fans behind me. Then I turned around and they saw how big my muscles are and they were quiet.
