NBA 2023-2024 General Discussion Thread

Pistons fire Monty Williams after one season, owing him $65 million. Team President Trajan Langdon now gets to choose his guy, in theory.

Would you rather have Trajan's job or Monty Williams', knowing you were getting fired. I mean,.... $65 million!

After only a little more than a week of the regular season, we have only two undefeated teams left - The Celtics and the Mavs (both anchored by Dukies). Kyrie's been out recently for Dallas, but Lively has been starting and contributing!

If Boston can avoid any serious injuries to their top six players they have the potential for a special season. But health is a must because the bench still needs bolstering (something they need to do by the trade deadline).

Just realized I got something right for a change. LOL

Wow, Southern, that’s pretty cool, especially considering how things turned out for my C’s!! 😎 🍀

Next, the Yankees or Red Sox (I’d be happy with either) are going to win the World Series, and the Dallas Cowboys are going to win the Super Bowl.

And as an extra special bonus the Texas Longhorns are going to win the national championship in football and Duke is going to win in basketball. It’s going to be the greatest year in sports of my entire life!

Wait... I know you and I are close and all, but Yankees OR Red Sox? I may need to rethink everything I know.

I was born in Boston and attended Red Sox and Celtics games as a child. Naturally I was a fan of both. Additionally, my son is a college student in Boston and from his Back Bay apartment we can walk to Fenway Park in five minutes. I visit 3-4 times a year and attend Red Sox games whenever I can.

When I was 8 we moved to Texas and I soon became a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, which was 100% mandatory as a resident of the western part of the state. Church (Presbyterian) would start early and finish early whenever the Cowboys were playing a game on the east coast with an 11 a.m. start time. It was said that Texas Stadium had a hole in its roof so God could watch his favorite team play.

My love for the Yankees came about because my dad was a long-time fan and he would regale me with tales of the exploits of Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Billy Martin (off the field), Ryne Duren (humorous stories), Phil Rizzuto, Tom Tresh, Roger Maris, Bobby Richardson, etc.

So yeah, I love the Red Sox AND the Yankees. Crazy, but true.

I appreciate the history and the ties to your dad but I do not know how your dad let that happen. It is like rooting for Duke and UNC (speaking a language everyone here understands).

I am a die hard Yankees fan for 40+ years. We were in Rhode Island on vacation when my older son was one and took him to a PawSox game as his first baseball game. My wife wanted to buy something to commemorate the experience and I refused to have any Sox-related merchandise in my home. Same for our tour of Fenway two years ago (which was a truly incredible experience even if I hate them).

I was at a golf tournament about ten years ago in Port St. Lucie FL, where the plentiful gifts included choice of PGA National ball caps. There were three piles, roughly the same suze. One was just plain, with only the club logo in front. The other two had either the NYY or Red Sox logo on the side, in addition to the club logo. Two observations: (1) there are a ton of Yankee and Red Sox fans on the east coast of Fla.; (2) not a single cap had BOTH logos on it.
