Name, Image, Likeness

Can't provide a link since this came from s notification on my phone that opened into Kon K's account(even though I don't have an account). He announced he's endorsing Celcius Energy Drink. It seems like these endorsement deals are all ramping up for the tournament.

Here's the Celsius endorsement on Kon Knueppel's Instagram.

You know, if Duke meets Houston in the Final Four, it will be the Celsius vs. Kelvin showdown we never knew we always wanted.

There's a comment under Kon's post from a user with the hilarious name @detlef_shrimp, who almost uses a Spoonerism by referring to Kon as "Duka Koncic" (the proper Spoonerism would be "Duka Loncic", but then you lose the Kon part).

Just saw an ad for Experian with Flaujae Johnson. I'm not a big fan of Kim Mulkey and the culture she creates around her team of "us against the world" but I have to give her credit. Johnson comes across well, relevant product (I don't use it but for many people I'm sure it is), I'm sure she made decent $ for it.

Interesting post from Brendan Marks on Reddit on his understanding of how the cutover from collectives to revenue share will work:

The future of NIL in a post-House world is one of the most interesting conversations in college basketball right now. My understanding is that collectives have until April 7 -- the day the House settlement is supposed to be resolved -- to come to NIL agreements with any returners/new transfer portal additions; collectives then have until the end of June to actually pay out those funds. So, expect a LOT of movement before that April 7 deadline, because that's seemingly when all collective money has to at least be allocated. (And for the players, think of this as a signing bonus, almost. They'll still earn $$ via revenue sharing, but they'll get a significant chunk up front, too.)

We don't really know what role donors/collectives are going to have in a post-House world, but they'll obviously continue to be important, even if those funds move in-house under an athletic department's umbrella. As for the amounts players are earning actually being commensurate to their marketing/advertising value? L O L. We're long past that. Not to say that some players don't return brand value, but the way I describe it, donors providing the NIL $$ for players is the new "putting your name on a library." Winning is the only real ROI anyone is concerned with. - Brendan

Someone mentioned this new Cooper Flagg AT&T ad in another thread. I think they've been wise to keep a low profile up until now before really ramping things up for the tournament.

Is it "legal" for the collectives to give out "bonuses" to the players for making the final four or for winning the entire tournament? A little like the coaches usually have some sort of additional bonus provisions built into their base contract if they reach certain performance goals.

Or a little like a certain Athletic Director getting a bonus for getting his undeserving team in the tournament. 😡

Trae Young trying to help Oklahoma be more competitive.

Hey Jayson Tatum (and your 5-year $315 mil contract) don't you go let Trae show you up!!
I kind of get this with Curry who is wrapping up his career and is bringing attention to a smaller school where it will add a lot. I admire Young's gutsiness but I am not a fan of him as either or a person or his style of play (though I compliment him for his generous donation). Perhaps he should spend more time figuring out how to help his team win than being an assistant GM.

I imagine it's more an honorary thing where he makes a few calls into recruiting targets. Smart move by OK. I imagine we will see more of this.

I don't think we know. NIL that's truly about "N", "I", and/or "L" could certainly have terms that pay more for the increased exposure that comes with winning the title. But NIL as we've known it that just pays a performance bonus should theoretically be thwarted by the new P4/Deloitte arrangement. ("Theoretically" is doing a huge amount of work there; I expect payola NIL to continue more or less unabated.)

Interesting article in today's Wall Street Journal entitled " The Dark Money Behind Duke Basketball". It s behind a firewall.

Here's what I think is a non-paywall version. Author is a Duke grad (2014), though his recent Old North State-related articles include an explanation of why you shouldn't pick Duke in your brackets (meh), and a paean to how awesome it is that Belicheck went to uNC (hmm).

Whatever his motivations, the article is a nothingburger: The TL;DR is that Duke's main NIL collective does not disclose its members beyond the three who started it. This malign secrecy is also true of a vast number of NIL collectives around the country.
