McRoberts vs. Filipowski

I think Flip has a nice form on his shot and just needs to tighten up the release and follow through a little. I'm more concerned about his lateral movement against athletic forwards.

I’ll put a pie bet this never happens given he shot a sad 67% from the ft line last season. To be fair he did shoot 76% from the charity stripe his freshman year.

Btw, that is a very unusual drop-off. FT% usually improves sophomre year. Makes me wonder if his personal issues were affecting his game.
Not clear it's "his personal issues." He dated and became engaged to a woman 6-7 years older, who was a friend of the family (through her family). She is educated (MBA, for heavens' sakes). Some of his family objected every step of the way, even though he was an adult, and recently posted horrible stuff on public forums.

Why are these his issues?

I think if you attribute anything to Flip's drop in FT%, it's his tired legs banging with opposing Centers for 35mpg. That really takes a toll.

Look at UNC. His freshman year he was defending and boxing out Leaky Black and Pete Nance. This past season he had to deal with Bacot.

I've always believed Flip's path to valuable NBA rotation player is as a 4 who can hit 40% from 3 and not as a small ball 5. Watching him in some of those late summer league games, he had so much more space on offense to operate in than at Duke. And he took advantage of it.

I believe he was 17 and starting his HS senior year and she was a 25-year-old adult with an MBA when they started dating. After a year of dating he completely cuts off his parents, siblings, friends, and high school coach. Yep, totally normal. Nothing to see here. 🤦‍♂️

Can we not go down this rabbit hole? I get (and unfortunately participate in) the circular discussions on offense, defense, shooting and general rosterbation. I think speculating on/discussing a young man's choices off the court is unseemly.

He turned 18 in November, and who cut off whom and what were the justifications? You weren't there. The only statements I have seen were from mother and brother, and they were horrible. We haven't heard a word from his twin, have we?

As far as the NBA is concerned, this is all a nothing-burger, given many of the life styles in the NBA. He is married to an educated and sophisticated longtime girlfriend.

I agree that, if his draft position slipped, it may have been because of his scanty relations with team-mates, understandable under the circumstances, but real nevertheless.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I have read a bunch of what his brother has written and I find it to be rambling, incoherent, and lacking in substance. Otherwise fine. A lot of "if you only knew" stuff.

I just want to note I didn't choose this path. I was responding to someone who did.
