Caution, @camion—do NOT make us break out the comfy chair! I would indicate that nobody expects, etc. but I believe we are required to provide 30 days' notice...
NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition. Their chief weapon is surprise. Surprise and fear. Their two weapons are fear and surprise. And ruthless efficiency. Their three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope. Amongst their weaponry are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again.

Interesting analysis by the always wonderful Brian Geisinger on how Duke may choose to defend Stanford, especially Raynaud:

it's good but lol for this "Unsurprisingly, Raynaud’s 3-point volume — as he’s evolved into a true stretch-5 — has increased significantly: 9.2 3-point attempts per 100 possessions, up from 3.7 per 40 in his junior season." 3.7 per 40 is actually a tiny bit more than 9.2 per 100

Good catch, but I think the error may be that Geisinger didn’t compare apples to apples. Maybe the 3.7 per 40 is minutes? In any event, Raynaud has shot more than twice as many 3s this season as he did all of last year, so Geisinger’s point is valid. Raynaud takes more than five 3s a game this season, up from less than two last season.

That math is confusing. New math?

Manman needs to bring his A game and make Raynaud feel not Chaud but Froid.

New math sucks. I took several years of advanced math at Northwestern but had no clue how to help my 6th grader when she asked for help. I explained with what I assumed was the universally accepted way of doing algebra and she's like "No, that's not how the teacher says to do it." When she tried to explain how they've been taught to do it, it made so little sense that I just gave up and said, "Sorry kiddo, looks like you're getting a 2." (Don't get me started on the "new grading.")

There was a story about that 2000 game in one of Coach K's books. We blew a lead in that one, but still had a chance to hold on with a 1 point lead late. Coach K had designed for Dunleavy to throw the inbounds pass, but Mike D protested, saying he wanted to be the one to shoot the free throws. Coach K pointed this out in the book as an example of assertive leadership on Mike D's part.

Of course, as things go sometimes, Dunleavy missed both free throws and Casey Jacobsen hit the winner.
I remember that Casey Jacobsen game:

I believe he wanted to be recruited by us and Coach K had his eyes on another player;
Needless to say Jacobsen played against us with a massive chip on his shoulder.

Go Duke, Beat The Trees...

In 1999, #10 Duke lost to #13 Stanford at MSG 80-79 in overtime. I don't have a box score, but current Cal coach Mark Madsen was a senior on that Stanford team. (I'm guessing this was the Pre-Season NIT or other MTE, since the next day Duke lost to #1 UConn, also in MSG, UConn having lost the previous day to unranked Iowa. Duke would win 18 in a row after the 0-2 start. Stanford finished the season 27-4, won the Pac-10, and spent most of the season ranked in the top 3. They were upset in the second round by Carolina, gross.)
Nice article on the 1999 game, big performance by C-Well

After it was pointed out that the last two times we played Stanford, we won it all, I wanted to look at when we last played Cal, since I remembered that we played them in the second round of the NCAA’s in 2010. I checked to see if we had played them any other r cent time before this week, and we had: a 35 point win in fall 2019! So the last 4 combined meetings against those two teams prior to this year, our season ended with a victory (home against UNC 2020 being the other one).

Dave O'Brien (Syracuse grad; bio), Cory Alexander (Virginia basketball; bio), and Dick Vitale (Seton Hall grad; website) will call the game on ABC.

Having personally welcomed SMU and California to the ACC, the #3 Blue Devils will host the Stanford Cardinal in a late afternoon game on Saturday, live on ABC. This is one of only three Duke games on a broadcast network this season, theoretically watchable with a nice antenna; last month's SMU game was on The CW, and the upcoming Illinois game is on FOX. So it's easier to watch, maybe, but harder to stream: ESPN usually has a corresponding ESPN3 stream for events on ABC, but all I'm seeing right now is an ESPN+ stream, which comes at an additional cost (ESPN+ streaming link, listen, live stats). If something changes -- adding a Spanish language feed on ESPN3, for example -- I'll provide an update by game day.

Here's the update: if you can watch ABC on your television, great, but I'm not sure if you can stream the game without an ESPN+ subscription. I have mixed results.

Desktop Computer

The ESPN Watch page for today still has just an ESPN+ stream available. Same result when I checked disneyplus.com and hulu.com. I should be able to watch my local affiliate online on abc.com, but I've never been able to connect to it, despite having a cable provider login (in my case, AT&T U-Verse). I get an error message instead.

Smart TV

Success? I have an ESPN app that does show separate ESPN+ and ESPN3 streams (see literal screenshot of my TV below; it says 3:00 PM because I'm in the Central Time Zone). Both streams appear to be in the English language. I will say that on my computer, there was originally an ESPN3 link, but it came up invalid when I clicked on it a week ago, and it eventually disappeared. Also, when I checked the Disney+ and Hulu apps on my TV, it showed only the ESPN+ stream.

If any of this changes by game time, I will provide a further update, either in this thread or in DBR Chat.

This game worries me. More so than did Clemson, which is weird. Their big guy is a load, however you say that in French

I’m more worried about their guard who hit the game winner vs unc. I hear he is familiar with Cameron and won’t be intimidated by the crazies😉

ManMan, Maliq, and Patrick. In the words of Jack Lambert “That oughta cool your I'm a real wanker for saying this. I'm a real wanker for saying this. down!’
