MBB: Duke 69 Arizona 55 Postgame Thread

To me, this one is quite simple. Your usual “young” Duke team loses a physical rock-fight on the road against a Top 20 team. This one won it, leading wire to wire.

Lots of that was from our eldest returner, Tyrese, leading the way in the first half. Our physical, glue guy transfers did a heck of a lot too. But man, the trio of Flagg, Kneuppel and Maluach did NOT look like freshmen tonight, especially down the stretch.

This team fights. We’re on the ground for every loose ball. We don’t shy away from physicality. What more could you ask for?

Massive win. This group is so much physically tougher than most recent Duke teams. Everyone contributed, but Cooper, Maliq, and Sion were incredible defensively. Outstanding collective rebounding effort. I love this team. When we start getting this offense figured out, we'll be so good.

Suck it Caleb Love!!

Awesome win.

Cooper took over when he needed to. Kon is fearless.

Brown and James had huuuuge games. Brown is so disruptive on D. Such an amazing weapon that doesn't show up in the box score. Other teams have to adjust to his on the ball defense it's so good.

Jay is right. The defensive rebounding from everybody was the story of the game against the best offensive rebounding team in the country.

Foster can’t do much when being defended hard. He’s not quick twitch enough and his set shot too low with a slowish release. He’s great against soft defense. He’s ok on defense and rebounding, but Sion is better at everything except maybe open jumpers.

Would like to see his minutes get cut back in favor of Evans. Evans is long enough to close out on the perimeter.

Big time win. Every time Arizona made a run into the 2nd half Duke responded. The transfers are all making big impacts. That's great to see. Duke has a guard problem though. Neither guard is good enough to create a shot for themselves or others. Foster isn't looking like a point guard. He looked scared of the ball in the 2nd half when they were pressuring. Thank goodness for Sion.

Just insane defense and rebounding. As good as I have ever seen from Duke. Cooper is the real deal. I have concerns about the rest of the offense but I’ll address them another time.
43-30 rebounding advantage

Cooper Flagg has no fear. He is a tough MF. Kon was not good first half but made tough rebounds and those 3’s were crucial. Maliq was brilliant.
Great win, but floor game needs to be cleaned up. Got to get better at free throws. Missing 2 technical foul shots was a painful moment for me.

How great was that win? All that shoving, holding, and arm hacks in a hostile environment and Duke pulls out a convincing win. Suweeeet! K-nip got caught too many times driving into the lane and stopping. Was begging for him to use his space and hit threes or mid range. Then he poured it in from outside and our 17 year old relaxed and started hitting jumpers. His dunk through the lane was epic. Glad there were no major injuries coming out of that “physical game” —
Aka “hack fest!” I hope the team will get to see some F1 up close. The venue is great. Funny our star player over three years away from being able to legally gamble.

Arizona is BIG inside. I was fine with none of our guards trying to press the issue and letting Cooper attack the rim.

Khaman was a bit limited inside this game. I think he will finish stronger by the end of the year.
