TV and film star John Amos has passed. From the Hollywood Reporter:
I find it profoundly weird that, for the second time in a month, I'm linking to a scene from Amazon's Coming 2 America sequel in an obituary thread:
You'll notice Louie Anderson early in the video; he died in 2022, a year after the film came out. Also in the cast: James Earl Jones, of course, and Dikembe Mutombo in a cameo. (Earlier this year Eddie Murphy brought back another character, Axel Foley, for a Beverly Hills Cop sequel on Netflix. John Ashton, who played Taggart in that film as well as the first two in the series, died last week.)
Not to derail the thread, but while a lot of people bemoan Hollywood's fixation on sequels, you could argue that maybe they should get made, while the actors are still around.

John Amos, the TV writer turned Emmy-nominated actor who starred as the stoic father on Good Times before he was fired from the landmark sitcom for objecting to stereotypes and admittedly letting his temper get the best of him, has died. He was 84.
Amos, who played football at Colorado State University and had training camp tryouts with the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs of the American Football League, saw his showbiz career take off after he landed a gig to play WJM-TV weatherman Gordy Howard on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
