FB: Duke 23, Wake Forest 17

The best thing is that in those last two drives, after he got sacked, Murphy finally started to show patience to go through progressions and find a secondary receiver. And earlier he kept the ball on an option and ran it in for a TD. Slowly revealing signs of development into a really effective weapon at QB.

I just watched the replay a bunch of times. It was a very well designed play. The CB playing Moore was trying to protect against a quick first down play. But what really helped here was our #15, TE Jake Taylor was lined up on the right side slot and ran a post toward the middle/left that pulled Wake’s safety #17 and gave Moore single coverage against his CB, who got duped because he was trying to protect the short pass. Just terrific. I wonder if WF was trying to protect against the post route because of Malik throwing that great post TD last week (the one where he flipped the two birds to our offensive coordinator)

When Murphy is good, he's very, very good!

For sure. He can be very frustrating to watch, but is an elite arm talent who can make any throw at just about any time. The young man also seems to have a lot more mental toughness that Duke fans generally give him credit for.

Will we slip into the Top 25 at 9-3?

It is a possibility. We deserve to be ranked.

Couple games go our way I could see it!

Hard to say. Someone else has to fall out of the top 25.

The only CFP ranked teams to lose are #2 Ohio State, #12 Clemson, and #17 Tulane. Maybe Tulane falls more than 8 places, but even if they do, the team that beat them (Memphis) has more votes in the AP and Coaches Polls than Duke, and might just replace them in the CFP.

The most likely candidates to drop out of the CFP top 25 -- if they lose later today -- are #20 Texas A&M (hosting #3 Texas at 7:30pm on ABC) and #24 Kansas State (playing at #18 Iowa State at 7:30pm on FOX).

#21 Missouri is hosting and playing unranked Arkansas right now on the SEC Network; it's scoreless in the 1st quarter. #22 UNLV hosts Nevada at 8pm ET on CBBSN. #23 Illinois and #25 Colorado have already won.

Yours truly, predictor of the 9-3 record, in spite of knee replacement and other health issues, decided to leave nothing to chance and made the trip from Central to Winston-Salem for the game. I am now 2-0 there, the first win was a 27-20 (I think) win during the Cutcliffe years. I am still delirious and have even cried a bit. After a much better second half, I thought we had wasted our last opportunity in regulation.....and then.....Manny/Malik magic struck. Thank you, Jordan Moore and everyone else. You have made an old, struggling fan very happy.

If Texas A&M loses, drops out and we slip in, well, that would be Christmas come early for us sports hate grinders.
