FB: Duke 23, Wake Forest 17

Wow, that last two minutes of Clawson's post-game was sobering. Puts everything into context for what it means to be a head coach these days. No time off anymore. When you start to think about what the game is now, you really realize what a grind this must be, and how quickly some coaches and staff's must burn out, especially if you aren't winning....
Just listened to this… somewhat hard to listen to. He sounds sad (thought he might actually cry at one point) and disappointed and frustrated. Agree about context and his point that “this is a far different game than it was 3 years ago”.

TRANSLATION: DAMM I shoulda gottten outta here when I had the chance........too late now. Small school football is a dead end.......

Yea, not to be bitter, but I'd love to see Texas blow out A&M tonight. College game day was coming from College Station this morning and they had Midnight Mike on the show and, needless to say, there was no mention of how he screwed over Duke last year (although I think everything has turned out for the better with Manny D). Yea, it would be delicious irony if Duke surpassed A&M in the

The original play was supposedly a quick 5 yard route to get into better FG range. According to Maalik and Moore, they both saw he was taking too long, so that TD bomb was totally improvised.

If you were at Groves Stadium, you missed a heck of a Duke win vs Wake Forest! :)
Groves stadium was the name of the Wake Forest football stadium in Winston Salem before the name was changed a few years ago.

Yep. Changed the name in 2007. “Groves Stadium” was then apparently used for the stadium in Wake Forest, and is now called Trentini Stadium.

Wake Forest football currently plays at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium (quite a mouthful!), previously called Truist Field, and BB&T Field after the name change from Groves.

I don't recognize name changes. Once Groves...always Groves. I go to the ESA when I see Duke play basketball @NCSU (or the NCAA tournament), and the Wankerizer won't let me type the real name of Northwestern's football stadium despite the obvious spelling difference.

speaking of Northwestern, here they have this ultra new fancy stadium beginning to be built and their football program is in the doldrums...

But do you watch when the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts return the favor, and come to play Trinity College at Duke Indoor Stadium?

LOL, and forget ESA........nothing quite like "William Neal Reynolds Coliseum" and the anthem by Mrs. Norman Sloan.....yes, I realize it's a different arena, but Duke Indoor Stadium had me going all old school for a second....

I came to Duke shortly before "Cameron" was added to "Indoor Stadium", and I wondered at the time if Wallace Wade had originally been named "Outdoor Stadium".
Not exactly. From Wiki:

Opened 95 years ago in 1929,[4][5] it was the first facility in Duke's new West Campus. Originally Duke Stadium, it was renamed in 1967 for former head coach Wallace Wade. The playing surface was renamed Brooks Field at the beginning of the 2015 season after the removal of the track and lowering of the field-level seats.

Wallace Wade Stadium opened in 1929 as "Duke Stadium",[7] largely funded with bonds—the school advertised for "1,000 individuals to invest $100 in Duke's athletic future" and offered 6% interest.

Eight-year-old Bob Green attended the game on September 30, 1967 when Duke Stadium was renamed Wallace Wade Stadium. Duke received the opening kickoff, fumbled in the end zone and South Carolina recovered for a touchdown to go up 7-0.

Final Score: South Carolina 21, Duke 17.

No real point to my post just jumping on the opportunity to let everyone know I was in attendance at the first ever game played in Wallace Wade Stadium.

I was also in attendance at that game. It was early in my sophomore year at Duke. I think it was the last season when many of us still wore sport coats to games. (Of course, the reason for wearing sport coats had nothing to do with fashion or comfort; the inside pockets of the jacket were perfect for stashing flasks filled with bourbon.)

We still wore sportcoats to at least some games when I was an undergrad (Class of '95). Purely a fashion choice as that you had to be more creative to get a flask - or a "Lightweight Traveler" of Jim Beam into Wally Wade.

We still dressed up for mixers at pre-game tailgates though.

How many games have you missed since then?

The #6 game of ESPN's Top Twenty,

6. Duke 23, Wake Forest 17

How in the world does Jordan Moore get this wide open on the last play of the game???

This was Duke's seventh one-score finish of the season; the Cardiac Blue Devils won six of them and now can secure the second 10-win season in program history with a bowl victory.

By 1968, the prevalent attire around campus had transitioned from khakis with sport coats to jeans with navy pea coats or army surplus jackets. (And fewer students were at football games drinking bourbon on Saturday afternoons.)

Some of us were still doing that in the early 2000s, when you had to drink to stomach Duke football.
