Dukies on the 2025 PGA and LPGA Tours

Alex has an 8:30 tee time. (that's 1:30 EST for those not living in Hawai'i ;)) Which means a 6:10 EST tee time on Friday. It might be very late before we know if he makes his 1st cut of the season (and in Hawai'i).

His status is listed as “Open Qualifying”. Not sure if he flew/swam to Hawaii to qualify first?
AHA! Good call. He qualified Monday with a 65. Would like to see him repeat that a couple of times. (Edit: check that, they play the qualifier at a different course, a par 72...though I'd still like to see a couple of 65s...a couple of -7s even better)

Streelman, 46, needs no introduction. The Duke alum has made 462 career PGA TOUR starts and holds two victories, including the 2014 Travelers Championship, where he carded seven straight closing birdies at TPC River Highlands for a one-stroke victory. He finished No. 142 on the 2024 FedExCup Fall standings to lose full status.

I have to believe, at this point, Kevin is just trying to hang on, stay in shape and keep his game sharp until he is eligible to join the senior tour. He's the type of player who could clean up for at least a few years on that tour.

Streelman finished -1 (69) today and is T31 with half the field not yet teed off. He will need a lower score tomorrow.

Solid bogey-free round of -3 (67) to finish one better than the cut line- -4 overall. Commentators gave him some praise for making the cut after qualifying Monday at…gulp… the venerable age of 46.

Streelman plays the front nine -1 to improve to -2 overall. He needs to play the back nine at -1 or perhaps -2 in order to make the cut.
Streelman birdies 12 and 18 and will be playing the weekend. Smalley is still on the course but having a great round at -4 through 13 holes. He is -6 overall and T12.

Wow. Alex goes -6, one of the best rounds of the day (1 golfer had -7). I hope this is a sign he has his mojo back, this is the 1st time he has made the cut in Hawai'i, let alone top-10 going into the weekend and 2 off the lead.

Go get 'em Alex & Kevin!

Sony Open Saturday tee times:

Streelman (T42) 1:30 pm EST #10
Smalley (T6) 2:40 pm EST #1
Odd that they're doing threesomes front and back. Must be some weather concerns.

Big weekend for our guys. This may be the best position Alex has ever been in on Saturday morning (certainly one of his top 2 or 3), and Kevin's 1st 2 tournaments are important for the reason stated upthread.

So not to look ahead (but I will), all 3 of our guys are playing next week in the American Express west of L.A., not currently threatened by wildfires and lets hope that situation gets under control soon. It has been one of Alex's best tournaments (T21, T22, & T25). Kevin hasn't made the cut the past few years, so it's a bit surprising he's chosen this for his 2nd tournament. But he got a sponsor's exemption. He's got a reputation as one of the nicer guys on tour, so we may see him get quite a few of these and his conditional status may not be a precarious as it is for other lesser known golfers. Max was T56 in his 2nd event as a rookie, but he's a different golfer than he was a year ago.
