Duke Softball 2025

Thanks to all for the updates while the wife and I were at the Ballet. I’ll definitely be watching today. Go Devils!
 
Lineup for Mizzou is in. Curd starts against mizzou’s Cierra Harrison, who we didn’t face last year.

Our other starters remain the same but Burgess is DP now and Mathis is surprisingly in the OF.
 
Oof, duke gets two on with two outs this time but Jennings can’t beat out an infield hit to score a run. 0-0 after 2, despite multiple opportunities
 
Curd worked around a two out triple, her first base runner allowed, to throw another scoreless inning. 0-0 mid 3
 
Duke strands two more as we are insanely unclutch today. Jada baker meanwhile is now 0-9 for the season, this last a painful one with two on two outs
 
Mathis singles to start bottom 4 and then we bunt her pinch runner over for the bottom of our order for….reasons. Meanwhile commentary is completely ignoring the game
 
1-1. Curd gives up a solo homer. Commentary is excited because they’re obsessed with Missouri for some reason
 
This is the part of the game last year that duke would bring in Lillie Walker in relief when Curd started to be figured out. But who would Young trust for that role now?

Curd is staying in, but there’s some minor defensive changes, with….vega switching to DP and Burgess back into the OF for reasons?

And then the next Mizzou batter hits it just short of the fence jeez
 
Duke gets out of the inning 1-1 mid 5. Two frosh pitchers were warming up for Curd at the end there, so we might see someone new soon. Especially with another game today.

I recall this happened a few times early last year and we thought Curd was tiring. Later in the year she had more stamina.

I'm not sure why all the defensive changes. Maybe it was to shuffle things up and give Curd a few minutes to regain her composure.

My only guess on the defensive switches is maybe it was a preplanned thing at some point to see how different players play in certain positions? Mathis is known as a 1B not an OF as she started today, and I suspect they did some of this to see how she’d go there.

Meanwhile Jada Baker pops out a bunt. No idea why she isn’t hitting 9, it’s not like she was a good offensive player in prior years whereas Mathis is a slugger sigh
