Duke Football 2024

2 of Duke's 3 losses are to teams that will be in the Top 10 this week and one was in overtime. Will we get a pass for the Georgia Tech loss, or are our wins not good enough?

But first we have to take care of business at Wake.
Duke still has a lingering perception issue that Louisville doesn't have (helps to start the season ranked, as they did). And winning at Clemson helps too.

Interesting discussion on one of the Reddit boards about which 8-3 team should go to the college football playoffs - Alabama or Duke. LOL. Obviously, it is somewhat tongue in cheek. But, as they point out, when you look at each team's three losses, the records of the three teams that Alabama lost to is MUCH worse than the records of the three teams that Duke lost to. So, they're claiming that Duke should be go to the playoffs over Alabama. It's funny to read the comments. Some people say, "hell, yea, Duke should be going over Alabama" and others just respond "LOL".

Football more than any other sport, your history and reputation can really make or break the perceptions of your squad. The silver lining to Duke's two close losses is that if we had one loss I'm fairly certain we would be locked in on the weekly playoff predictions and being wildly frustrated.

I have no reason to actually dislike Wake, but I really want to beat those guys. On more than a few occasions over the years they've brought us back down to earth when we seemed to be playing pretty well. While 8-3 sounds pretty good, 9-3 just seems so much more impressive. I'm not even going to conjecture beyond that though...because, "one game at a time" and all that. As you so aptly state, let's take care of business at Wake and keep this train rumblin' down the tracks. I really want one more win - I trust this team feels the same way.

Our losses are better, but their wins are way better

We can only hope that Duke convinces Manny Diaz to stick around. What a terrific job he's done.
Manny is 50 years old. Maybe by the time that he wins a bunch more and other schools start to come calling, he will be "too old" to be moving around... especially his family. And if Duke can create that "family" atmosphere for him, he just might play out is career at Duke.

Manny has a son who’s a freshman at Duke. Me thinks he’s not going anywhere in the near future
I agree though I confess that I believed Elmo when he said he didn't want to go anywhere. Manny really gushes about Duke, and as I am wont to say, his job security at Duke is excellent, he seems comfortable here.
I think he was paid $3.6 million/yr at Penn State, and pundits guess (we don't really know) that he's making at least $4 million at Duke...(Elmo seemingly made $3.6 million at Duke)...his comments about Duke when interviewed on the ACCN 20 minutes after the VT game were most impressive, he really seems to love the place.

Manny seems to fit Duke from a personality standpoint in a way that Elko never did. And it can't hurt that his son is a member of the freshman class.

Believe he is just a student
In an interview earlier in the season, Manny was asked if his son was going to be a walk on. Manny’s response was something akin to he’s going to walk around the campus getting good grades.

In this day and age of sincerity/commitment being fleeting at best, I just this gut feeling Manny wants to be here to build the program rather than build the resume.

Wish I could share your optimism. If he runs the table and gets 10 wins, he becomes a hot commodity. A 5+ million offer at a school with a football fanbase and I think he leaves. Hope is with more integrity than the last one.

We lose to WF and then no issues.

Manny is a Florida State alumnus. Florida State is 2-9 and a 16.5 dog to unranked Florida at home Saturday. Color me and DukeMom02 worried. Best case is Manny will use the Florida State and/or other offers to wrangle additional $$$ from Nina.
